Aux actuators pushing out?

I really think that my ports are not opening properly. here is a video...
<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/snSwuM1Nn_M&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/snSwuM1Nn_M&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
They seem to push out not down like my friends do. I recently just did a pacesetter header swap, haven't got the O2 sensor plugged in yet, I Do have the tube from a high flow cat plugged in.
What do I need to do?

They should push UP (S5) or DOWN (S4). What series do you have?

Pushing out indicates that the rod isn't properly installed or just has free-play (first time i've seen this). Remove the actuators and see if the rod wants to pull all the way out or just have play in them. If they don't come all the way out, check to see they rotate up and down freely. If they pull out all the way, be very careful because you have no way of knowing how to attach the rod to the sleeve since its all inside the lower intake manifold. The rod is held by one bolt and one screw and if you get to the point you need to fix those, be warned that you will be tearing the lower intake manifold to get the rods installed on the sleeves properly. Take caution when pulling on the rod and try not to move it left or right if it is coming out freely without a "stop".

If they just have play in them and rotate freely, reinstall actuators and don't worry about it... Probably just the air pressure in the intake pushing them out slightly...

Free-reving the engine in neutral on an S4 will do nothing to get the actuators to move. It is under load that they open up (push down). I haven't messed with them much on an S5 during idle but they MAY open up free-reving due to the airpump...

I see, well, its an S4 and my friends 88 pushed down free revving in neutral. Though he has a full racing beat exhaust.

s4 actuates via exhaust backpressure, s5 actuates via airpump and wont actuate unless the engine is under load like driving.

Well I can push the rods down pretty easy, and both of them move fine...just that when the car is running they push out not down. Though I have yet to take the actuators off again and try pulling on the rod...

the actuators are probly fine, the compression/pressure when the engine revs up is pushing the sleeve (the actuator pushes/pulls) out a little (not held in right or at all ) then when the butterfly valves close the vacumm jumps up and pulls the sleave back in.

thats my best guestimate.

I had the same symptom with mine. I'll bet your 5/6-port actuator seal is hard, brittle and needs replacing. They're $4.76/ea at Mazdatrix; http://www.mazdatrix.com/c-2.htm bottom of the page.

The only way that they can push out is if they are installed incorrectly. :-)

.Installed correctly they are at the fully extended position. Therefore there is no way they can push outwards.

If the actuator is working and the sleeves are clean and free plus you have the correct amount of back pressure, revving the engine up "Will" activate them!

1. Remove throttle body
2. Remove upper intake manifolds
3. Remove lower intake manifold
