i just bought my 3rd RX-7, this one is a 90 vert w/ an automatic trans. the problem is that the transmission doesnt want to shift while in drive until high rpms. if i hold it at 4k then it will finally shift, but then if i try to accelerate, even slightly, it will kick down a gear or sometimes 2, making it rev alot higher then i would like my daily driver to rev.

anyone know whats going on with this trany, its my first automatic so i kinda dont know where to start

I'm not really sure about the answer but be prepared for everyone to tell you auto sucks and do a 5 speed swap.

 

assuming you've already changed the transmission fluid & verified it's topped off.

 

ok 5 speed it is. so will an 88GTU 5 speed transmission fit in a 90 convertible with little to no problems?
