Automatic transmission electical wiring assistance needed.

I don't like posting threads for help but I am either blind or something.

1986 A/T- At the passenger rear of the transmission just behind the vacuum modulator valve is a solenoid. It has a single wire, black with red stripe. The only FSM wiring diagram I have access to online is the 88. I cannot see that wire anywhere? Where does it connect to. Also off the neutral safety switch is a 4 prong connector. I have that plugged in but there is a single yellow wire (sheated) that has a larger than normal female connector coming off that plug. Where does it go?

Page 3 in the link provided indicates the solenoid next to the Vacuum Modulator is the Kickdown solenoid.

Well the FSM says that a Black wire with with stripe goes to that solenoid. However the only black with white stripe wire that is there is the one for the starter solenoid.

It shows it coming from the front engine harness but I have looked and looked but I am not able to find it. It had to be there before I took the transmission out.

Maybe someone with a A/T model (S4) can look to see where it comes out of as well as where the yellow wire from the neutral safety switch connects to also.

The kickdown solenoid has a Black/Red wire feeding into it. I have an 86 A/T that I just checked. The 88 diagram is different then what an 86 actually has.

The 88 diagram indicates a Yellow wire going from the kickdown switch going to the 4AT relay.

Satch,

Thank you for looking.

The 87 also shows a B/W wire that feeds to the solenoid but the solenoid has a black/red wire coming off of it. The other solenoid colors do not match the connector harness either. Have you verified that the wire on yours that goes to the solenoid is indeed b/r and not b/w? Also where is that relay at? I see no other wires on that harness? Do you have multiple wires attached to your starter solenoid?

What I am asking here is where exactly does the yellow wire connect at in the engine bay and the solenoid?

LMAO,

Mel, Why don't you just buy this thing so I don't have to fix it!

I am 100% sure that it is indeed a Black/Red wire just as it is depicted in your first pic. I had to use a mirror to check but B/R is B/R and it's B/R.

The relay is found in the group of relays in front of the radiator where the headlight relay and dimmer relay an so on are found.

Our cars come with a kickdown switch and a kickdown solenoid (two separate items). The 88 diagram shows the Yellow wire connecting the relay to the switch.

Until I get skinnier than I already am I have to figure a safe way to get under my car as it's fairly low to the ground as it is.

I had to jack mine up from the side and put a car ramp under it to get underneath.

I feel pretty inadequate at this stage as I am the one that took it apart (2 months ago) but cannot find those wires.

Sarch,

If you get a chance this weekend to get yours up in the air and take pictures of where those wires connect that would be greatly appreciated. :-)

Not making any promises of when this could be done but besides the Black/Red wire can you provide a pic of the exact plug(s) you want to know where they run to? The first pic you provided is somewhat vague. If you cannot provide a pic then describe how many wires are in the plug(s) and the color of each wire.

The solenoid wire is a single wire as stated in my original post and the yellow wire is a single connector that comes off of the 4 prong connector from the neutral safety switch.

I have already stated which wires I need to know where they go to?

Again, I need to know where "Exactly the connector is that the Black/Red wire from the kick down solenoid goes to .

Also where the "Single" Yellow wire that comes off of the 4 prong harness from the neutral safety switch connects to?

Wiring diagrams are not doing any good as I am not able to find anymore connectors off of the front engine harness that it says these wires are supposed to go to? The other solenoid connectors match up in the harness and are connected.

I knew it was going to turn out to be something simple. The large yellow wire goes to the starter solenoid and the wire which I thought was the one for the solenoid (B/Y) was dirty and thought it was B/W actually was the one for the kick down solenoid.

Satch,

Thank you for you help in this matter.
