Automatic/Manual tranz ? for 2nd gen
Ima bout to buy a 2k$ black on black N/A 90FC...Its 140k but is an automatic. Do I need to swap the end plate on the rear housing??? just to swap a manual in? Because that would require me to drop the engine im sure. Hmmm. I think I still have my gauge pod off my old 89gxl so im sure that will just plug right in.

you won;t need to drop the engine, but from my experience, its probably easier if you did...
The gauge pod will work fine.
There are several right ups on the swap.. you need to replace flexplate (flywheel) clutch assembly, transmission, and driveshaft.
The rear-end is optional, but remember to switch out the speedo gear from the auto to rape into the manual. The auto has a 390 final gear and the stock manual 90 n/a probably had a 410 or 430.
EDIT: ahh you'll need a clutch pedal set and clutch/master slave too.

yes and the gear shifters things are ugly and it only goes to 7krpms. Ew. Mabey I can just buy an after market 10k tach that fits into the stock gauges. My mechanic has a japanease magazine that has them special order. Cant tell the diff between factory and new ones except that it goes to 10 instead of 9k

I have done the swap and there was nothing to it. It took my dad and i 6 hours for the whole conversion. I got everything i needed before i started so i went extremely smoothly, no one glitch best mod youll ever do

well wait a sec. The only hard part wich is pretty easy is droping the auto tranny and drive shaft and putting in the manual one with the manual clutch and (including slave) and drive shaft right??? sounds like I can do it in 6 hours myself if im lucky. I droped mine to replace the clutch a few times.
Now my question is what driveshaft can I use to fit the automatic differential or should I also swap for the 4.1 or 4.3 gears. And will I need the drive shaft for the 4.3 gears different then the 4.1?

you need different trany mounts, I made mine out of 3/8" steel from directions i found on the web somewhere, i dont remember where, they said to use 1/4"steel. I never swaped the rearend so i still have the 3.90 gears, I am waiting to get a 4.3 lsd from a gtu. the auto driveshaft is too long, you need to use a driveshaft from a manual n/a car. I was lucky because mine had a u-joint out anyway
The hardest part was was lifting the manual trany up and in, while keeping the input shaft aligned with the thrust bearing. we didnt have a trany jack so my dad lifted the trany up and in while i started the bolts(trust me he is not a small guy). Even with the 3.9 gears it is still tiwce as quick as the auto was.
