Question Autocross dream car?

Alright, I want to know everyone's idea of a autocross dream car that retains both seats and is streetable. Such as streeport, suspension, tires, and so forth. If you can provide prices, even better! Oh, and it HAS to be an NA. Preferably series 4 :-D

Hmm...I'd say JIC Magic FLT-A2 or any other quality true coilover system that uses a linear spring (better for autox). Tires, since it has to be streetable, probably some Kumho Ecsta MX or Potenza SO3's 225/45/16 (Advan A032R if you're hardcore) all around mounted on some lightweight 16x8 wheels (FD rims are cheap). Rear camber adjuster. Upgraded anti-sways and struts. Polyurethane bushings. I dunno about modding NA FC motors though since I have a TII, so not much help in that field...

Oh....and a good clutch type LSD is a must. Kaaz or Mazdacomp, Cusco, etc...

Thanks for the info, I'm not much into NA's myself, and when it comes to suspension I'm clueless. The problem with tires I'll have is that the autocross track is an airport runway and it's pretty harsh on soft tires. I don't mind ride comfort very much, so I might be able to get away with a hard ride. Any suggestions on the toe eliminators? Would that be to my benefit, or against?

I've got both the series5 TII and a series 4 NA, the TII is out of commission at the moment, and quite honestly I'm tired of dealing with it. But the S4 NA is pretty much set for the road and I'm just looking for ideas on setting it up for autocross

Seriously though Kahren is correct, I saw a gutted CRX runing 1 sec off the fastest time, with my RX7 TII the best time I could get with good driving is 10 secs off, some nice drifts though!

Do they happen to make a size that fits the stock '87 sport rims? (think they had 205/60R15's?)

i plan to get those tires when i get my new wheels. Those tires are pretty darn close to a racing tire, and you dont have to worry about a small amount of heat cycles and can still drive them on the street.

Sonicrat....about those toe eliminators....they are a MUST as well once you get serious. I just installed the toe eliminators and a rear camber adjust last weekend. Changed the whole car. Now I can push my car to the edge and actually feel where the edge actually is instead of the back wheels toeing in. I think the best word to descibe how the toe eliminators is that they make your car "crisp". It feels how a rear wheel drive car should feel, not all mushy in back.

Thanks for the tip Spool Up, I noticed that in the short period I got to drive my previous NA. I'm going to order the 205/50R15's for the NA and see how those go, I'm also going to get the toe eliminators on the way. What camber adjust plates did you buy? Cusco? I'm pondering what else I should go with to keep it planted. Any other idea's such as engine mods and/or feedback on strutbars?

'88 GTU with JIC Magic FLT-A2 coilovers, front and rear STBs, removed A/C and P/S, 16x8 lightweight wheels with good 225 rubber, large streetport, removed emissions, header, Apexi N1 exhaust, HKS intake w/cold air headlight cover. That just about describes my plans Now don't steal 'em!

i would suggest keeping Power Steering if you are goin to autocross. i've driven autocross with both manual and power and the fewer turns lock-to-lock and the ease of turning when going through some slow/tight turns would probably outweigh anybenifit of weight savings or HP gains. kinda personal preference i guess.

i think just about any front and rear strut tower bar would be just fine. I personally am a big fan of the JIC strut bars.

Yo,

Sonic, what I think he meant was:

http://www.racingbeat.com/resultset....rtNumber=14008

That's the Racing Beat rear camber dohicky. You'll have to read what it does.

For Auto X you'll want to stay with a small diameter wheel...15's should be good...14's would be better.

I would take a look at the Falken Azenis tires...they're like a poor man's A032R's. I'm probably going to use those for my street tire on my GTUs.

Have fun!

Thanks Rarest, I'm already settled on the Falken's and am about to order a set. I'm going to keep the stock 15's on it for now as well. And I saw both the RB camber link, and cusco camber plates, and I wasn't sure what the difference was, so *Shrug* Thanks again

Hey now you can’t say “Dream Car” and give regulations like street able. So with my mind set my Dream Auto-X car would be a Toyota Starlet fully caged, full suspension, with a bridge ported 13B. Yummmmm I love those cars. They are light, they have a small *** wheelbase, and always get the looks at any Auto-X you go to. So if I follow your mind set I would say my Dream Auto-X car would me my car with just a couple of more mods, full racing seat, new 4 port bridge port carbed motor (on the way), and new tires .

my car a terrific auto X killer that i drive daily (till my GVR4 has her new motor & 18G in a couple weeks). here's the setup:

-GC coilovers w/ eibach race springs on KYB struts/shocks, Tein pillowball mounts, Grex front strut bar, Cusco rear strut bar, energy master poly kit, 215/45/17 sumitomo HTRZII (FR), 235/45 same rear. stainless brake lines, new rotors/calipers, hawk pads all corners, 1.75 deg. - camber (FR) corbeau forza race-buckets/harnesses.

Sure, the 17's are less then ideal but they are under 20 lbs each...sure it's a little *cough* stiff for an everyday car but it's liveable. All NA mod cept a header/streetport... the racepipe/downpipe route is a little quieter w/ similar power gains according to RB. Dual N1 replacing my custom dual Dunk setup (for sale) this weekend!!! The RB aluminum flywheel also makes for a great auto X mod, aside from the full exhaust it's the best NA mod around (I think)

Alright, my list of goodies to order just keeps on growing :-D How well does the aluminum flywheel hold up? Something about the idea of aluminum just doesn't seem very durable to me... But what would I know!
