Auto tranny question

I have an auto, 122k miles on it still runs fine except for a few questions about my tranny...

While in first i have no acceleration, but once i hit second it kicks in.
While crusing around at 25mph or slower it likes to switch from first to second and second to first alot.
When i shift from park to drive the car really gets thrown, and the height of it seems to change. Think of you in park then someone rear-ending you lightly when you shift to drive.
I am assuming my transmission is shot, just looking for assurance that I am correct before looking for another one,

My auto always did the same butt tuck when you'd put it in drive. It'd do a noze tuck when you put it in reverse as well. If shifting is wierd, the first thing to check would be fluid level and quality. If the fluid looks more brown than red, you should drain and refill, as well as change the filter. If you don't know when the last time it was done, now'e the time. My AT told me when it was about to die by clunking when I stepped on the gas, and then again when I let off. That was at about 150k with lots of abuse (Shifting it like a stick).

Yeah, well i got the tranny fluid changed about 3-5 months ago. I put a bottle of that lucas' transmission fix in it as well, but for some reason i cant get a good reading of the level of fluid off the dipstick. I was assuming it was superlow, so i put more in it then i ended up overfilling it and had to get some drained... so I have no idea whats going on with the fluid. Other than that it smells ok and it looks to be the right coloring...

when the fluid is really new, it's sometimes hard to see on the dipstick. That, and it takes very little to get from just touching the tip to the point of overfilling. You just have to look at the light reflecting off of the dipstick and look for the shiney part. Another thing to check, apart from the fluid, is the vacuum line running from behind the UIM to the transmission. When that starts leaking, both the tranny and engine start acting up. Also check the vac line on the TB to your double throttle valve, and the one teed off of the line going to your boost sensor. I can't remember what the thingy it's going to is called, but it's right near the air box.

Well when i check my fluid i get fluid all the way up to about 2-3" past the "full" line, but its not a solid line of fluid up to there. Its almost like a splash of fluid to the top (all the time when i check it, its like that). I'll check that UIM line and stuff tomarrow when its lighter out.

Hehe, yeah auto tranny...
Looks like I should just do a swap to manual...
But... i dont have anywhere to work on my car, and its just going to be more money I have to spend... whereas getting another auto tranny might be cheaper... decisions.

Ya, switching to a 5sp requires welding if you want to do it right. I found it was easier to get another RX-7 with a bad interior and engine problems for $900. Fixed some oil leaks and replaced the vacuum hoses, now it runs great. now I"m in the process of swapping out the interior.

i did my auto to 5-sp swap for about 500$ it took two days and it was finished.have a welding shop weld the tranny mounts for you its very simple they might not even charge.the hardest part is getting the wires to start the car and for the reverse lights to work.me i just bypassed all that crap because my car starts with a button and the fuel pump and acc, have there own switch.

Yeah, maybe when I have a garage. For now i'll just deal with the autoness and try to make the tranny as close to my liking as possible.
