auto to manual transmission swap

so the autotrans is starting to slip and i am about to swap the transmission from the car im parting out to my dd. anyways my question is are the driveshafts the same between the auto and the manual? also, the flywheel i use must match the engine or the transmission?

from what i've read looking for driveshafts the driveshaft is the same, the flywheel must match the motor, s4 or s5, and you will need the proper counterweight if you use aftermarket

driveshafts are different, you can use a t2 transmission with the auto driveshaft to n/a diff..past that you need an n/a driveshaft

your flywheel will match the engine and transmission...

also the cross member will have to be fabricated, if you were local id make you one

Turbo 38.03"
N/A Manual 38.07"
Auto 38.94"

This is a start:

If you or someone is versed in welding, you can weld the manual ears on the correct location.

The adapters look like pure crap. Just cut the mounting brackets out of a car and weld them in.

Making a auto to manual bracket isnt hard at all. You can use the same crossmember, just need to adjust the mounts to be ~6 inches back. RR recommends L bar. You'll want to get under and measure it with a tape measure.

Look at the 7th post in there, that'll help you [far and away the easiest way to do all the wiring - But you will NOT have a clutch safety switch. ]

Also, just swap the brake/clutch pedals + mounting bar instead of trying to remove the whole assembly that holds them

As for the mount... Take an S5 trans [the type where the Y-bracket bolts diagonally to the trans] then take your automatic crossmember and bolt it up to the Y-bracket, then get two pieces of angle steel, "L bar" as g14novak called it, and make two bars and put 4 holes in each [measure carefully!] v8killa has a thread about making those..

I have this setup on my 87' base and the only issue I have with it is that the angle steel I got isn't very strong, and my transmission tilts slightly when I am shifting. I don't know if stronger angle steel would resolve the issue, but I know that the proper mounts would.... >_>
[I'm hoping to get those welded on this summer if things go well with another project..]
