Auto To Manual Tranny
Ok, before any of u say anything, i know that any car with an automatic tranny is not a sport car. I just want info on where i can find info for doin the tranny swap and what some of the best parts to use when switching and if there are any extreme mods i have to make to my car... its an 86 SE and i just got it not too long ago bone stock and in great condition for about $1450. Not a bad price right? I've checked out rx7.com to see what they have, but any second or third opinion is always appreciated.... or hated in some cases. Please help me out over here, this is my first car and im already tired of drivin automatic, that's for robots and atms.

I've done this swap, on an 86 SE..
Parts you need from the standard donor car;
Transmission, starter,clutch, flywheel, pilot bearing + seal, pedals, driveshaft.
As for the transmission mount you will have to get something made, they aren't compatible. It (automatic mount)will cradle the extention housing so you can put it in the car and drive it, but you will have to put some straps (metal) so that it doesn't move around. Also you will have to run a wire that goes from the inhibitor switch plug to the starter solenoid.
Thats about it, the car that I did this on does have some other drivability issues, but I don't think they are related to the swap.

lol your right, maybe i should switch my auto tranny with that guy with the manual tranny. It could possibly save us money both ways even tho there would have to be some modifications. Any estimates on how much it would cost for the parts and the swap all together?

I just had this conversion done about a week ago and it is a big improvement. It is like driving a completely different car. My cost was $850 parts and Labor included. Which I think is cheaper than it would have cost to repair my automatic transmission. All parts were used except he put in a new clutch. I recommend anyone looking for performance from their automatic to change to manual it makes a huge difference. Good Luck
