auto -> manual...DONE!

Mad props to my man Kevin Landers (HYPNTYZ) at Rotary Resurrection in Morristown, TN. He yanked the auto tranny, rear end, and all associated parts, and threw on the 5 speed, 4.1LSD, custom crossmember brace, pedals and all other associated parts...figured out the wireing, and put me back on the road, all in about 8 hours! The operation took an hour or so longer than planed because it was his first series-5 conversion, and the automatic tranny computer introduced a few interesting side effects, like idle loops from 500-2000 RPM. Nothing that couldn't be corrected after a little reading of the factory service manual. He also hooked me up with a straight pipe to replace all the cats, (just to tie me over until I can get my full exhaust). Now I don't have to worry about atrophy of my left leg anymore

And let me tell you, it's a totally different car now! GOOD GOD it's fast as **** compared to the auto tranny. OK, bear with me on this next part.....I know doing burn outs is stupid...but I just had to throw down some power a few times to fully appreciate the performance gain. Yes it's a wonderful feeling to burn 'em all the way through 1st and squeal 'em in 2nd...auto's just can't do that I also got my car to my new speed record on the way home to VA... 150MPH (zero traffic and zero cops in northern TN at midnight)

If you want detailed info on the conversion process, contact Kevin... hypntyz@charter.net his forum handle,as well, is hypntyz.

He's become my official parts supplier He supplied me with my pedals & slave cylinder, and my sunroof. Now I just need him to get me a T2 rear end! (you still haven't sent me a quote yet!)

Dude, drop him a line about that rear end...I saw one there, but it might be his for his own TII which he's still building...also I guess you are looking for a quote from him, not me...so yeah, drop the man a line!

I have, but instead of a quote, he gave me a joke about not sending out the sunroof because he was to lazy to take it out, which I almost believed, then he gives me a UPS tracking number, I thought it was another joke but he was brave enough to use UPS, and I recieved the sunroof and it wasn't bent in half!

where did you quote that at? I don't see it anywhere in the many PM's we exchanged about my project. You did quote me on a turbo driveshaft, which I will be taking off your hands soon.

Oh and if anyone needs to know the specifics of the swap...electronic or physical, just ask and ill post here and we can archive it. I did a bit of learning myself, which will save a couple of hours in the future when dealig with the s5 auto tranny, which is fully electronic.

Ok, consider it sold. Also, what electronic problems did you run into on the swap? I've so far completed everything except putting a tranny in (or at least, I think so) If only i could get a damn engine here! I think my main problem will be wiring up the starter so it goes through the clutch pedal switch.

Oh, I hope you didn't misinturpret my previous post about the joke, I was trying to state that you were joking with that, but I think i worded it a little badly so it sounds like I was seriously calling you lazy, which was actually the joke itself!

What did you use for the front tranny mount?

Did you figure out how to get the cruise control to work?

Does the reverse light still come on in the guage cluster, but none of the others light up?

Thumbs up Yo hypntyz7 !

Could you post the info on the Tranny swap. What kind of money are we talking about anyway from start to finish (rough estimate).

Rotary Resurrection, Kevin Landers owner and operator, Morristown, TN, (45 minutes east of Knoxville).

I charged Daniel $725 for all parts and labor. That includes all wiring and fabrication, which appears stock to teh untrained eye. I only have enough parts for one more swap at this time, but I can get more. This price did not include the flywheel or shifter parts, which would add to teh cost and make it an even $800. Parts included are 5sp tranny, driveshaft, 4.1 differential(nonlsd), used clutch parts(unless you bring new ones), used slave and master cylinders(unles you bring new ones), used flywheel, 86-8 shifter parts(no bushings, you need to bring those), pedals, starter, wiring, custom crossmember fabrication, and installation.

IF interested, PM me, better yet email me, or to reserve a spot for sure, call me 423-748-7977 12noon until 12pm eastern.

Yea I was thinking about it for awhile until my motor blew last weekend at 32,000 miles . But anyway Im getting my engine rebuilt with an agressive street port, few other goodies and putting in the 5 speed from
J + R Rotary in Paterson, NJ for about $3,500.
And it will finally move!

The way it seems at the moment for me, is even after my conversion, my car won't see movement for ages to come! I'm pondering putting it on hold and working on something else, getting tired of all the problems I've run in to.

Yeah man, the car still runs great, and pulls like a beast! The Mazdatrix short shift kit I used is VERY TIGHT. I mean it takes like 5 pounds of pressure to pull it out of gear! So at first it would actually slow down your shift times, but with much use it will loosen up a little and then it will be very nce. It is already a little easer to work even after just a few days, so that's cool. Anyway, Kevin IS THE MAN, no doubt. And with the new tranny, I've added a new mustang, a 6cyl camaro, and a 454 El Camino to my kills list That El Camino as close as hell though...he almost had me, but that high as **** redline is what saved me! Later!
