Auto To Manual Conversion: Need To Swap Front Counterweight?
Im halfway through swapping my tranny out, and i was told by the local rotary guy that i MUST put in the front counterweight from the car i got the tranny from. Otherwise my motor will be horribly unbalanced. But looking at the great writeups i got from here, this is never mentioned. I mean this makes sense to me but i figured someone would of mentioned it. Thanks.

You can use whatever years trans you want as long as you can get it mounted. S5 transmissions are the easiest to adapter properly due to the mount being similar to all year auto mounts.
The only counterweight you need to worry about is the flywheel counterweight. Make sure you use a flywheel from the same engine that is in your car (S4 86-88 or S5 89-91). You can leave the front counterweight alone.
