i had a gtu for about 6 months until the engine blew a seal. i really want to convert it to a TII and am currently saving money to do so..but its a long process since im a college student. i was planning on buying a jdm TII motor with 30,000 miles on it..and was wondering how reliable a car like this would be? with that little amount of miles it should last a while rite?
No not necessarily the engine might have been driven hard... it might have been overheated... there is no guarantee that the engine will last long or not.
Plus do a seach for JSPEC in the second gen section... and you will find more information than you can digest there.
Also do a search for the TII conversion... it is more than just dropping in an engine!

J-Spec engines are a complete crapshoot, even from the best dealer. You just can't guarantee mileage on those things, or how it was treated by the previous owner, wrecking yard, shipping company or importer.
Some people have had them last forever. Others have received engines so rusted inside that every part is junk.
If you are going to go this route, buy a J-spec from a trustworthy source (ie. http://www.speedmachineperformance.com ) and then have it rebuilt by a trustworthy rotary shop (and include a port job as well).
And remember, it's not just the engine you need. Read the FAQ.

It just depends, buying a TII would be much easier and less expensive in the long run. and alot less work. the cars are reliable when everything is working right but sometimes you have to spend alot of money getting it to that point. me personally i would stick with the n/a until after college, n/a's make great college cars. i had mine in tucson the whole time i went to school out there and never had a single problem and i was pretty hard on the car at times. properly running and maintained a n/a can be a fairly bulletproof car. of course i didnt really put that many miles on it, only using it to go to the mall or to get beer. i walked everywhere else.
http://fnf-motors.com/index.php?main..._car.php&id=37 i was looking at buying the motor from this source...but after reading what Aaron Cake said..im a little concerned about getting it
