Atkins Engines...flawed?

Has anyone had luck with Atkins engines? Apparently, they've been using an abrasive that is causing a premature death in their engines. A buddy of mine, "flying taco" had a street-ported engine go out on him a month after installing it. No compression on the front and erratic compression on the rear.

So, since I'm in the market for an engine...who makes the best engine at a fair price (notice, I did not say "cheap"). I'm debating going J-Spec, but if I spend another $500-$700 I may just go with a nice rebuilt.

Go for a Killer Bee rebuild. You'll be glad you did.

I have an Atkin's engine. I am very happy with there engine and customer service. I bought a streetported engine for my '91 TII.

At 2000 miles I got low oil pressure. 10 PSI at idle and 55 and 3000 rpm. I sent the engine back to them. Apparently the oil became contaminated. They are replacing bearings, housings, supplying needed gaskets, paying for shipping all under warrenty. Even though there was a problem I am still happy with Atkins.

I have a '86 RX-7 base model with a 180,000 miles on her. I am waiting for the engine to go. When it does I am going to install an Atkins engine.

If they install engines into aircraft and people fly these planes. I trust their quailty. If an engine goes in a plane. The inconvience is slightly greater than when it goes in an RX-7.

I am very happy with Atkins and their customer service. David is great to work with.

Pineapple Racing. 60k mile/5yr warrenty. However, chances are you won't ever get to use the warrenty. Does anyone else offer this kind of warrenty? CJ

i would say pineapple racing or get a jspec from www.fc3s.org . i'm supposed to be getting an 89T2 friday 100k miles so it will need an engine soon. might buy a jspec then have it torn down and rebuilt and nice street port by my favorite local engine jr's rotary performance an option might be to pull your engine drop in a jspec then send the old one out to get rebuilt and ported

I am Happy with my HAYES rebuilt (but they did take 2.5 months to build my motor) but from what I hear/read PINAPPLE RACING has the BEST WARRANTY (5yr/50k mi) and Excelent service.
If I had to get another rebuilt I would go Pinapple.

AT maztech they charge like $2200 for a full rebuild and streetport. I have not used them for anything yet but my car will be going to them soon since I have only heard good things about them.

That's what I'm thinking of doing. By dropping a J-Spec in the car, I can get my car back on the road and save up the dough for a nice rebuilt engine with a warranty. Pineapple seems to have the best warranty and comments...plus their website looks the nicest. If anything I was thinking of rebuilding my old engine myself over the course of the summer and drop it in when I get a daily-driver (yes, my TII is my only car...but I have a GXL available to me whenever I need it).

BTW..Vosko, is that 89 TII the black one that was in the pics of some rotary shop up in your neck of the woods? Are you going to make it a daily-driver or is the GTU going to remain with that title?

I've never read anything negative about Pineapple Racing's engines. I can't say the same for most of the other places

unfortunately its not that the one. i asked about it and the owner is going to fix that one i happened upon another one supposed to be in decent shape right needs new seats and alternator but should run. i'll just say i'm getting it VERY cheap. i haven't seen the T2 yet. i'm supposed to go look at it and pick it up friday. a friend has seen the car and says the exterior is in better condition than my GTU. for now my FD is sorta using all my $$$$. i'm gonna get the T2 and see if i can just get it running then go from there. if the T2 seems like it will be reliable i'll will EVENTUALLY get rid of the GTU. i love the car and it has NEVER let me down so it will be hard to let it go i had an old T2 before along with my GTU and FD but that was way very messed up. i sold after i fixed most of the problems but really miss it. it will be nice to have 2 backup cars again. i'm deciding either pull out the engine in it and have it rebuilt and ported or get the jspec and have that done. one more thing this T2 is black NOT RED like 95% of them. i can't have a red car with my *driving style*
