ATF stories

I think I may be missing some compression so I was thinking of doing the ATF trick. I wanted to hear all the first-hand accounts of people that have done it, good and bad. Thanks.

No noticible gains, just got leaking injectors after doing it. No idea how that happened, but it never flooded before doing it, and after, well, it flooded daily.

ATF is good for starting a flooded engine, that's it. Don't use it if you don't have to because it is very bad for your engine.

all this time I have been under the impression that the ATF trick is a kickass way to keep carbon buildup to a minnimum and all that good stuff...... I'm confused now!!!!

Well I know there are people that believe it is a miracle worker and others that think it is the devil of rx7s. I just want to hear actual stories first-hand of people that have performed it. They can be good and bad, I want to hear it all.

I used it on my 12A street port and it worked great. It idled smoother, pulled harder, and started easier.

I used it on my 89 gxl. I got a little bit more high end from it. It pulls harder now too.

Anyone have actual proof....ie dyno sheets showing if it gives any gains? I still think it is not necessary except for seized engines. I mean, "I feel..." is a little to objective for me. I agree with Aaron.

Personally I haven't come to a conclusion. Thats why I made this post. To see how many people actually tried it and not just talked about it. And to see what the results were. Can we start putting in if there was anything really wrong with the engine please? Thanks alot guys.

I have used the atf trick on both my 80 and my 84 gs they were both carbon locked and wouldnt start (no compression and I put one half quart into the the carb slowly let it sit 1 hr bumped the ign and added more , repeated until I was satisfied it was saturated , let it sit for three days but occ.turned it over when I put the dizzy cap back on it fired up and ran like **** until the atf was burned off the changed the plugs and they both run like scalded dogs

What about MMO?

What about using MMO? Either into the oil directly (how much I'm not sure, maybe 1/2 bottle).

Or directly in place of the ATF?

Like I said....If the engine is seized, then go for it. If the engine is good then leave it alone.

I did it to a '91 NA that had been sitting in a junkyard for at least a year and it made a huge difference in how the motor felt (objective), and idled much smoother than it did before. I watched the tach and it didn't bounce around nearly as much and the engine had far more power after.

I also put half a quart into the gas tank of my Acura TL and my g-friends Jeep, both with about 55K on them. I can't tell if it made a difference or not for running quality and power but we both seem to be getting better gas mileage by about 1 mpg...seems small but hey...

This one time, I had a T-Bird with an automatic tranmission, and it was low on fluid, and I put in ATF, because it goes in the automatic transmission.

I used carb cleaner w/lube in my rotary chambers.

Any more people that have tried it with success or failure?

Ive used it on two 87s now, one I used it to start the motor that sat for a year. It got the motor started but I dont have a baseline for how the engine would have ran before.. Second time it was for a 7 that had a really bad smoking problem while under full throttle, above 4k RPMs. No real improvement/degradation of the engine performance and the smoking problem was still there after the ATF treatment. So, my opinion? I would use it to start old/flooded motors, but I dont think I would go pouring it into my rotary just because I have some free time. The stuff is acidic as hell and eats away just about everything it comes in contact with....

if your engine is running fine leave it alone.

If it has been sitting for a long time, ATF helps free up the apex seals and boost up the compression.
Also ATF helps if your engine is very flooded.

Don't think by doing the ATF trick you'll gain 2342345horsepower.....

Well my car doesn't seem to be as fast at it should be and the boost is where it should be. Seems to me like I might have a little low of compression. Only one person has had any first-hand problems so far and that was leaky injectors. Well I have a fuel cut off seitch already so I could fix the flooding problem already.
