I recently purchased these white covers that go on top of the factory gagues, and they light up, (glow blue and red at night) and look really slick. The problem is, i cant get the fuel, oil pressure, and temp gauges to function properly after i have removed the needles, and am now trying to get it all back together. The tach, speedo, and battery gauges work, but none of those are the needle type (of the needle) they have little plastic holes, not metal needles. anyway, ive got it all back together to where i think it should be, i start it up....and nothing. i see these gauge covers everywhere, so i assume that someone else knows what to do, because i dont!

I have a couple of sets of gauges (just trying to decide which colour to use, white or silver)...anyway.

I'm not sure about the differences you are talking about, normally you should not have to take off any of the needles to install these.

You also mention that some needles are plastic while other are metal? Please confirm this difference, and the mention of plastic holes?

I will check what I see on my 1991, what year is yours?

 

I purchased a set of those, I didn't need to remove the needles, just threaded them through the hole that the needle pivots on...(don't know a technical name for that!).

At any rate, was the battery disconnected when you were messing with the gauges?

 

yeah... i didnt need to take my needles out. i just took the hole cluster out though. make sure the connections on the back are connected right if you took them out.

 

Well, I know that in Hondas, taking off the needle destroys the gauge. That's just how it is, they aren't ment to be taken apart.

It looks like Mazdas may be the same.

 

damn damn damn damn damn.........im beginning to realize that im completely dumb. that would make about 10000 times more sense then what i did. im going to keep trying though, and see if i can still get them back to working.....thanks guys. maybe i will have to buy a whole new console....

 

not to hijack the thread or anything..but how do u go about taking one of those things off? Cuz one of the previous owners of my car did that but they put the damn thing in crooked....

 

All i did was removed the front console like piece (with the turn signals, cruise, lights, etc.) and then basically just unscrewed all the screw that are there.....and then the gauges are removable...except for the speedo cable. you have to reach your hand around and behind, and undo the clip. after that, there should be enough play in the wires to get at all the other screws. then just adjust your crooked covers.
