ARRRRGH! Headlights don't FIT!

I burned out a headlight, and am trying to replace them with a bulb/lens assembly conversion with SilverStars. I bought the ones at AutoZone for the same bulb type and they are too deep to fit in the light housings.

I realize there is a SilverStar sealed beam, but I have no information on how well they acutally light versus the bulbs, and I would rather do the bulb/lens arrangement for a better choice of lighting in the future.

Has anyone converted a FC to the lens/bulb lighting? If so, what products did you use, or what additional steps were made to make it fit?

I searched, and didn't find anything on the conversions or sealed beam SilverStars.

I've got a set of sealed beam Silverstars. No fitment issues what so ever, theyre a direct fit. They light well enough for me, definatley brighter than stock.

i have the hella h4 conversions with some matching hella bulbs - no problems at all. I used to have some from ebay, but they were just a smidge too large for the retaining ring - nothing a little grinding couldnt fix.

So other than that, no fitment problems due to depth.

I love my hella e-code whatever yellow "all weather" headlights - lols

I looked at their site and catalog, and I can't find a price (I'm afraid it's out of my range at this time.) I would definitely stick with a hyperwhite bulb.

I'm afraid to try to grind a strong 1/4" off these housings... there doesn't appear to be that much plastic.

I'd just use what ever fits stock. Too many problems with retro fit bulbs.

I used some KOITO sealed beam thtat came witht he frunt clip I got a year ago. They work better than the old ones, one plastic and the other glass. It seams that Koito was the oem manufacturer for the FC. Their name apears on the metal headlight backing....

I think you bought the wrong ones.
They should be "6054" size?
It's a standard size, and the dimensions should all be identical due to industry standard.

Well, these must be slightly non-conforming to the depth standard, because they say "6054" on the box, but are approx 1/4" too deep from front flange to rear flange.

I figure it's about a 99% chance I won't be able to afford the Hellas (their stuff is generally pricey), so I bought SilverStar sealed beams for now...

Of course, nothing can go easily... I lost a white plastic insert for a housing screw hole somewhere in the front clip (it's gone forever)... so now I have to hope it's a pretty standard part and I can get one to put the housing back in place.

Easy automotive project NEVER ends up that way for me...

I lost one of those clips too, so I took off the black plastic headlight side thingies on both sides and called it weight reduction.

I have a convertible... I'm beyond hope on weight, and I like the finished look with the surrounds in place.

you dont need every screw, just gank a white screw insert from another part of the headlight, or make one out of play-dough or duct tape or something really tacky like that. you could always glue it to the top plastic thing, but it would be sort of permanent, velcro maybe? i dont know, be creative!

I just threw a washer and nut behind the fitting, so it wouldn't come out the square hole. They'll end up in the front clip if I have to remove the housing again... but oh well...

It uses #8 - 32 fittings.

the sealed beam silverstars work well, i had a set on an FC a while back, they light up the road well, better than stock.

if your gonna do an H4 conversion I would recommend going to www.danielsternlighting.com and getting the Cibie lenses with some PIAA H4 bulbs.
