apex seals on only #2 rotor?

hey everyone-have rather strange question.i have not done alot of work on rotaries but my sisters 88na has great compression on #1 rotor and almost 0 on #2.talked to mazda mechanic(dipstick?)he said that with only53k on engine its possible to remove the rear housing and just put new seals on #2rotor.this does not make sense to me but ive worked on boingers all my life.he stated that he has done it before with great results.has anyone ever really done this?all help would be appreciated!!!

You have to know what the engine looks like to understand how he can remove the rear plate, and the rear rotor. Its still going to take a lot of work because you have to take the motor out and pretty much disassemble it. Go to www.howstuffworks.com and do a search for rotary engines. It will show you all the parts and a video of how the interal components work.

I wouldn't bother with just one. it would still take 90% of the work to just do one. I would certainly pay a bit more for both.

money not really motivation.it was what he recommended.seams to me as you have already stated your pretty much in there rebuild entire engine but he stated with so little mileage you can do what he is suggesting.as i said with no experience on rotories i didnt know if he was making sense.as an old time mechanic i am looking to possibly rebuild it myself.
