apex seal missing??
ok.. I bought a dead n/a... it had no exhaust on it when I bought it, and I looked into the ports because of the uneven cranking noises I was getting...
all of the seals in the back are perfect, and I get fantastic compression.
I look in the front, I get one great bounce and that's it.. so I go look at the seals and one of the apex seals is MISSING... there is NO damage to the rotor housing that I can see (or feel) .. but the seal is just gone.. how the hell can one make a clean getaway like this? most of the time when I see damaged motors there is huge scoring and damage to the rotor and etc.. this rotor looks perfect and there is no damage to anything, yet there the apex seal isn't.
what could have happened here?

Are there any remnants of it or peices of it behind? Like the springs/inner/corner peice anywhere? Or is it just clean straight in and nothing at all to be found?

If not, there is no way you can tell if there is or isn't damage to the housings just by looking into the ports...

You can pic up an automotive boroscope for about $250. Or if you have a small mirror, you can rotate the rotors and stick the mirror in the exhaust port and see a large portion of the housing. not the complete housing, but a decent amount.
Terrh, is the apex seal kinda flush with the apex of the rotor as if the apex seal spring is flattened out? Can you turn the rotor so that the apex is even with the exhaust port, then take a picture and post it so we can see?
