I was reading the FSM on Apex Seal install (90 Non-turbo). It goes over an assist piece that didn't come in my Rebuild Kit I bought from Racing Beat. The seals in the kit are 2-piece, N351-11-C00C. My question is do I still need this assist piece? if so, where do I buy this? I looked at Mazdatrix and didn't see it.

Lastly, there is pink paint on the springs. Anyone know the significance of this?

Assist piece..? What do you mean?
The FSM is probably referring to the 3-piece apex seals that Mazda was using at the time, generally they're only two piece now.

I don't think the pink matters..

the assist piece is glued to the end of the seal. iirc pink paint is for turbo apex springs

 

Pag C-51, agreed, its for the old OEM 3 piece seals

 

disregard it, mazda doesn't sell the 3 piece seals any longer nor do any of the aftermarket seal producers.
