Anyway to compression test a motor out of the car?
I couldn't get ahold of a compression tester in time to test it and I only had the cherry picker for a couple hours. The engine, tranny, and starter are all still bolted together and this weekend I'm going to fill it up with oil and put on the oil cooler.
Could I just take some huge wire and run it directly from the battery to the starter to turn it over or is this a completly stupid idea? Which posts on the starter are negative and positive?

yeah, u could do that
just clamp the ground to the tranny somewhere... then apply the positive to the both the terminal and the starter signal plug.. that should do it.

Make sure the trans is in neutral.
Negative, ground is the starter case itself.
If you're using a set of jumper cables (easiest), clamp the negative side onto the starter itself.
With the positive side of the jumper cables, touch either of the two terminal posts - only one will work.
Do NOT touch the engine or the starter case with the positive side jumper cable!
Can you say sparks?
