will 1989 s5 convertible tail lights fit on an '88 w/out conv.?????

wrong, they will fit. you'll one of two things though...either the license plate housing from a 89-91 coupe or dremel/notch your existing ones to fit which is still a fairly easy affair. All S5 light assemblies throughout the world are identical...no difference from U.S., Japan or Australia.

 

Well I guess the guy who has the vert just lost a deal on the ones I was selling..
He told me they were diffrent.Now I know

 

The vert ones have a key-hole too I believe...

 

They fit fine, but you need the License plate holder from the vert as well (including the License plate lights which are mounted on the body of the 'verts rather than part of the light assembly.

And there is the issue of the trunk key hole.

 

my buddy has the vert taillights on his 86 n/a the keyhole looks like **** on his car
