Anyone with a vert ever thought about removing the roof motors?

I'm guessing the roof motors weigh like maybe 10 to 15 pounds each, and since my roof switch only seems to work one out of ten times, I figured I could just remove them and put the roof up and down by hand. I mean for how long it takes the motors to move the roof, I could get out, put it down, and be off before it would normally get to the beep stop. I'm sure there is some reason why I can't do it; but how about this time someone tell me why I can do it and how.

manual top

I have seen a 'vert with the top motor disconnected. I don't know which pieces were removed, but the top went up and down easily.

O I thought you were talkin about sunroof motors. That I might do since my sunroof doesn't work. Think I just need to get some new cables cuz I can hear the motor work.

without the motors, i assume that all you would do is unlatch the two latches, then lift it up and over, and the opposite to put it up. My main concern is that the motors are actualy holding the roof up as a structural support.

If you unscrew the control screws you cna work it by hand easily, but is the motor integrated into the hinge system? If so, you might have to do some fabrication.

yep, i made my top fully manual. i actually left the motors still in the car because i didnt know what i wanted to do with it QUITE YET. but next time i get those back panels those heavy *** motors are comin outa the car. (come to think of it i think my dad threw out the linkages.. oops.. guess i have no choice now..lol)

i too did have a faulty switch in my car and it NEVER worked on nice days. i said **** it and removed the steel gold colored linkage that connected the power motors on each side with the top lever. this makes it a manual top. might as well just pull the motors too to save weight.

fyi, i can now put up and take the top down faster than waiting for the motors to roll the top back..

to get at the linkage you need to pull the side housings.. be careful not to break the ones on the top wehre the actual top is supported on.. there is a bolt under the cover that needs to be loosened with a wrench..
