Anyone using this MSD timming retard box? oppinions? comments?

MSD 5462 Is the one I was looking at since its just barely over 200 dollars. It says that it can retard timming 20 degree's max. So I think thats good enough for a forced induction 6 port block running a stock EMS and S-AFC II

he Boost Timing Master allows you to adjust the amount of ignition retard from 1 per pound of boost to 3 per pound via a control **** that you mount on the dashboard. This way you can make adjustments on the fly to prevent detonation as fuel quality or altitude and air quality changes up to a maximum of 20 retard. There is a boost pressure port to connect to your manifold and the BTM wires easily to the MSD Ignition Control.

Is the description on the site.

so you'd need two and set them the same? and at this point, plus an safc, you'd be at about the price of a used haltech.

There are a few posts about this... quite a few actually. But, as Aaron said it won't work since it won't control trailing. Just retarding the leading could potentially cause the trailing to fire first and that would be BAD.

To make it work, seems to me that you would need 3 one for the leading and two for the trailing, since they are fired independantly. Not to mention the cost, but it's just not a good idea.

Certainly the haltech can control timing, but you don't get the benefits of a boosted ignition.

My $.02
