Cool Anyone using an Aftermarket LSD?

If you are, what type and what brand are you using? I'm trying to find out what some of you guys are running. And please specify if you are using it for Drag, Drift or Track. Thanks!

You're unlikely to find an FC driver with an aftermarket LSD...most of us don't hit the track too often (more autocrossers) and the $1,000.00 is better spent somewhere else on the car. I'll have a cusco eventually but I am a distibutor and get a nice $ on them.

Stock FD Torsen for "cheap"
Cusco for ultimate
KAAZ is easier (and a little cheaper than Cusco) to get.

surprisingly, cusco has everything for this car in STOCK!! my car should go in for the full TII swap in a couple of weeks then it will go back for paint after the motor is broken in. I'll order the cusco LSD and their cage at the same time and make them the winter projects.

It's a bummer but I have to say your average FC owner would not be able to afford an after market LSD.

I am seriously contemplating getting the KAAZ
http://www.rx7store.net/product.asp?0=207&1=298&3=240

basically i have no problem with the stock s4 TII LSD but currently mine is very bad shape, whines like crazy cruzing at 40mph, and doesn't lock up like it used to, I used the correct additives and everything with no luck.

From what I understand unless you have rebuild a LSD before first timers should not attempt this unless they have a spare differntial lying around....

BTW how much does a new S4 TII LSD go for?

I have Kaaz 1.5way. Plan to use it for drifting. I'm gonna start practicing once DTSS eliminators are on the car.

The Sport package does not have a LSD. I have confirmed this with several people and I happen to own one and the differential is not limited-slip.

I'll stick with a torsen type differential unless the absolute need comes to go to clutch again.

OK, in a junkyard near my house there's a GXL, it use to be leather interior and it still has the 4 piston calipers and 5 lug hubs. Does this car have an LSD, it had power everything, power steering and it use to have an a/c compressor. Does it come with an LSD?

If it is a S4 GXL, it will have the LSD rear end.

If it is 1986-1988 model GXL, then yes it has a limited slip. Otherwise, no.

I have a 86 GXL with 3.9 LSD. I'm doing a 5spd swap and I have a 4.1 diff too. I'm not sure if I want to keep the 3.9 cause its LSD, or go with the gear ratio that will give slightly better acceleration. Hmm, sounds like a poll good topic.

Do all aftermarket LSDs sound like a car dragging a bag of hammers? I have only ridden in one car with an aftermarket LSD. It was a nismo lsd BTW.

Most aftermarket LSD's will make a fair amount of noise at low speeds...diff additive can work well to quiet them down but some noise is to be expected. The phantom grip works reasonably well...

define reasonably well. Personally I'd rather weld the spider gears.

While I'm posting in here. Are aftermarket LSDs universal? I have a GXL with the LSD going out and I'm considering that Kaaz one the RX7store has. will it fit?

aren't welded spider gears not that great for street driving or any real sort of turning action

as far as I understand they can make it harder to turn and cause loss of grip
