Anyone use the new Fram X2 oil filter?
I usually use the Pureone filter, but it was not in stock when I went to change oil yesterday. So I got this new Fram X2 Ultra High Capacity with Triad Fiber technology...I just bought it then wondered how much it was, I look later at my receit...$9.99! Wow, They should throw out some wild HP claims at that price! Really though, it says its 7,000 mile performance and has 79% more capacity vs leading brands...
Anyway just thought I would ask for thoughts on this or any like products. I will post any findings later as I get use out of it...

I don't trust anything Fram makes. I try to only use Mazda filters, as they have been proven to be better than any other filter on the market. My backup filters are Purolator and Mobil 1 filters.

There was a study out about 7 years ago (I think it was in Consumer Reports) that basically tested all the oil filters out there, and the conclusion was the best two filters for any price, for any car were the Toyota and Mazda OEM filters. (I Think they even said that the Toyota 22R filter fit a bunch of GM and Dodge products).
You are much better off using the Stock Mazda filter... aftermarket filters like the Frams do not have the same flow through and don't filter as much out of the oil that the Mazda and Toyota filters do.
IN fact as I recall from that article that the found the frams the worst for flow through and filtering particles size.
I would be intrested to see what filters everyone that has blown a motor uses... betcha 75% were aftermarket filters.
I know Honda says if you don't use Honda Oil filters you can void the engine warrenty... that alone should say something.

After reading this thread I may switch to Mazda filters, how much do they cost?

I think after the Consumer Reports review, Fram came out with a new line of filters, the XTRA guard and X2 filters, to out perform the shitty orange boxed filters.

I've also been using the K&N's for the last year or so. I am happy with them...spendy little buggers, but everytime I change my oil(and filter)my oil still looks almost brand new.

Speed: Thats impressive, how often do u change your oil? As far as 7 year old studies, thats old news, these have just come out and testing was done on them via Honeywell Test labs...I wasn't aware that the stock filters were rated so highly though...Good info! Keep it coming.
