anyone think of this???

hey just wondering if anyone could make a background for the gauges? for example...they make the indiglow/white face gauges....but surrounding them is just the old stock face. can someone make a carbon fiber or aluminum background to surround the gauges? how much would it cost? hope someone knows something usefull in regards to this matter...i am sure others are interested in the similar product.

Fred

take out your gauges.. take it to a sheet metal shop and tell them to but out a piece of metal to the exact out of polished steel.. and drop that right in and that will look just fine

I was thinking of making some gage faceplates out of slices of salami once.. but I think that was just because I was really hungry.. my stock gages are still working after 130k+ miles..

actually, my idea of a neat and actually somewhat POSSIBLY useful replacement gage designs were to do the following..

For the Tach: get a dyno run for your car... take the power or torque curve (as per your preference) and plot it on a color scale around the perimeter of your gage.. (red is high power/torque, blue is low, etc.) that way, you can have a visual representation of where you are in your WOT output curve at a glance.. (as if you didn't already know)..
Then on the speedometer: take your gear ratios, etc. and plot out around the perimeter of the gage the various RPM of various gears in concentric circles.. so, say you are at 35 mph, you can glance down and see that the engine would spin at (made up numbers!!) beyond redline in first, 4200 in second, 3100 in third, 2500 in 4th, and 1900 in 5th.

But replacing gages without including more information on them?!? just changing the way they look?! bleh..

I never followed through on my idea because I couldn't find a graphics program to do the RPM plot in the feeble search I did, and I'm not that much of an "appearances" guy.. maybe someday I'll get bored and do it..
