My 88SE smells the same as all my cars. Savanna Heat. Oddly coincidental

 

ya i have noticed that smell to.....i noticed it whent looking to buy my car and even at some junkyards

I recently had an explosion (Buttermilk sauce from Jack in the Box) in my T2, so it smells like carpet cleaner and exhaust.... Gotta drive windows down all teh way... hope it never rains when I'm driving her.

 

Shifter boot.. I agree... all my 7's have smelt like tranny oil untill I replaced every damn one!

 

Familiarity. I can't explain it really but I noticed the smell too when I bought my '90. I had had an '88 three years previous with the same smell. I have no idea what it is either as I've ripped up the interior and replaced carpet padding, fabreezed it, cleaned everything a few times, but it always comes back or rather remains. I don't consider it a bad smell either. The sound of the rotary in combination made me feel right at home the first time I got into my car. I think it must be some addictive drug or something they came up with in Japan to get us hooked on rex's

 

i pulled apart a wiring harness, and now the drawer has that fc smell too.

my fc just kinda smells like a gym or something, it doesnt quite have that fc smell.

sa's have a distinct smell too, its different from the fc

 

Mine is a Vert, so it has great ventalation.

i know what you mean. both my fc's have had a distinctive smell. almost like fruit or something. i like it.

 

It's the smell of old Mazda interior or something. All of my FC's have this smell. ****, my mom's old '87 323 had the smell too.

 

All the FCs I've been in have that smell, and I've even noticed it as I was looking in the closed window of a closed top convertible.. (I just stuck my head close, and could smell it.. ) ...my theory has always been that it's just the smell of hot and mazda plastic (my friend's 96 626 smells similar, but not as hot...)

 

The only smell my car has is from a $100 bottle of perfume! -Jackass grocery bagger, threw groceries on the bottle breaking it...Boy, was I ever PO'ed

 

heh its funny you should say that because my friends FC and mine both smell the pretty close to the same.

on a side note my other friend owns a 240SX and he said one time that some guy who owned a 240SX opened his car and said "Yep, it smells like a 240."

 

Yeah my 87 has that same smell it acually pretty good tho I like it also my friends 91 626 has about the same smell I wouldnt care anyways I love rx7s there awsome even tho I barly got beat by a v6 camaro it wasnet fare I had a stock cluch and 10 year old tires I swear I spun those tires all the way through 2nd and I missed 4th i cant drive real well im only 16. but neways great smell

 

My car came with the pleasant odor of a chain smoker who undoubtedly owned it before me. I know this also, because I cleaned the upholstery and found lots and lots of yellow-brown dirt all over.

Now it smells a little better, since my thorough cleaning, and also I spray axe into the seats and everything every time I go for a drive.

I sure do love smokers.

 

My supra7 smelled like a swamp (more like someong took a **** in there and left it sitting....) before I gutted the interior and pulled up all the sound deadiner. There was moldy **** growing under it all, and it took like 2 bottles of mean grean, an air chissel, and 2 days of work to get rid of that smell....

 

Not to mention the carpet is ruined...

 

Oooh... I know a guy who has been overseas for over six months... he just found out his eclipse has been growing mold while he was gone. All over the dash and leather interior.

 

I have been told I have the smell of oil, just be soaked in. People say it is a sweet smelling oil not stinky oil, so I take it as a compliment.
My car smelled like dog poop and a dead mouse when I first got it then I ripped out that top layer of carpet and now it smells distinct to say the least. Not bad, not good.

Seriously, it's not exhaust leak smell, it's something else. Maybe I'll check on pulsation damper and see.

Afterall, that's wise to check to prevent possible "RX7" BBQ party.

Yep. Same here. My car had been sitting in a garage for several years when I bought it, and it only had 60,000 miles on it, but it still smelled like smoke. The first time I cleaned the seats the towels were all yellow. Pretty nasty. I got an air freshener for it after that and have vacuumed and cleaned the seats and whatnot several times and it seems to smell better now. I'm going to go look at a S5 TII with a buddy tomorrow. We'll see if that car smells the same as mine I guess. When I get out of the car I'm overwhelmed by the smell of fuel. I can only imagine what the people behind me on the road are thinking.
