anyone know where to get external WG pipe thing for stock turbo?

i have seen a pic of one...

the plate that caps over the stock WG and has the hole in it for your DP that has a hole drilled into it and a pipe welded to it for a atmosphere WG dump pipe.
On the back side of the plate there is a pice welded on to seperate the normal exhaust flow from comming out the new exit.

anyone know who makes these or who made one? Where can get one?

Any drawbacks of having this done?

Jaared, I know what you're talking about but I don't know where the pic is. However, I don't see the point. The stock S5 wastegate properly ported can handle some serious power without creeping because it "vents" both runners. However, the S4 only vents the one runner so I think it would creep, even with an aftermarket wastegate. I've ported my S4 wastegate to about as big as you can go and it still creeps on cold nights(http://68.201.92.155/fc/wastegate.html). Kinda seems like a waste of money to do all that work to install an aftermarket wastegate, if it's still going to creep. Anyone have first hand experience?

Now I really don't get it.....you just want to vent the stock wastegate to atmosphere? Why? Does it help performance? All I see that doing is making a lot of annoying noise when your wastegate opens.

The way the stock wastegate works, is it just bypasses the turbine wheel, and dumps the exhaust back into the downpipe. With this tube, it completely isolates the exhaust from the turbo, and the exhaust from the wastegate. It will control boost creep alot better, and should help hold boost better as well. The S5 wastegate can be ported very large, about 35+mm if I remember correctly. Thats a good sized wastegate, even for an aftermarket one. The only disadvantage it has is the restriction of dumping the gases back to the downpipe, which acts as a restriction. This cures that. Plus open wastegates sound awesome

some people think rap music is just "annoying noise"

the downsides of this??? Noise. That is all, but some people don't see it as a downside.

This is a big DSM thing, a lot of them have external dump 02 housings, and they see huge gains from it.

I guess it would help out a bit in the restriction department.....I just don't think I'd like it on my daily driven car.

The noise wont be a problem until you reach your specified boost level and the wastegate opens up. Under "normal" driving conditions, that will never happen so its not really something Id think you should be concerned about.

Now that's interesting! And looks fairly easy to fabricate too...

Yea I was thinking of actually making up a batch of 10 or so and selling them. I could use the extra cash, and my father works are a large machine shop, so Im sure I wouldnt have any trouble.

a guy makes a "Divorced" downpipe for supras...you have the downpipe for the exhaust, and then the wastegate has a seperate pipe, that just goes down and dumps out...i've also seen then for other cars where they are divorced at the beginning, and then it goes back into the downpipe usually right before it ends

I've got one of those in my car, but it joins back into the main exhaust. It was custom made with the downpipe.

IMO open wastgates are like loud BOV's. No performance gain, just "look at me!" noise.

But aren't there gains to be found with a more free flowing exhaust?

If joining your turbine and wastegate exhaust flows together results in a drop in power, your exhaust is too small.

I don't know how much power is to be had from an RX-7 with one of these, since only like 2 people on this board actually own one. But I do know, Turbo DSM's are looking at 15+ WHP gain from this WHEN they have a 3" Exhaust (Now you probably want me to prove it.. it's late at night, search dsmtalk and prove it yourself). I'm not saying it will add a lot of power to the RX-7, but the results technically should be beneficial.

Technically, even a 3inch exhaust could be restricted by having the wastegate dump back into it. The sheer turbulance of having the wg flow hit the exhaust flow at 90 degrees could create enough back pressure on the exhaust to lose a little, but thats not the important part of this mod.

That same turbulance also creates back pressure in the wastegate killing flow. This piece would help reduce boost creep solely because of the more free flowing wastegate, although s4's could still probably use porting

That's why you blend the wategate pipe into the main pipe at a nice angle. The whole point of this is to eliminate the huge turbulence created within the exhaust housing by joining the two flows in a much smoother manner.
