Maybe you could get an RX-2? RX-3? RX-4? Are you noticing a pattern?

Well, my wife and I have a Hyundai Santa Fe that we use as a grocery/dog hauler... She absolutely loves it. Great warranty, we haven't had a single problem with it either.

This probably doesn't help, but my 2nd gen is my daily driver, and my 1st gen is the winter beater. The only cars I've ever owned have been rotary.

Actually, I have to get a winter car soon... The RX7 doesn't like the snow... I am thinking about either an 80's Bronco or an old International Scout...

If you want a cheap, reliable, decently fast daily driver/Beater, Get a 94- up Chevrolet Caprice Ex-cop car. 260 HP, 300 something ft/lbs of torque. And they run FOREVER. you can pick one up for really cheap. since some fleets are replacing them right now.

Heres my 2 cents.

95-98 Nissan 200SX.

"sporty" and VERY econimical. Models with 50-60k miles can be had for $4000-$5000. They also get 35mpg. And since its a nissan, they are pretty dang bulletproof and wont give you any trouble for a good long time.

What do I use as a daily?

I have a 1996 Saturn SL which is another good car. Mine has 136k miles on it right now and the only time it has ever failed me was when the alt went out. Has been an incredible car. I cannot reccomend a Saturn though, because a friend of mine had a very very well taken care of SL2 that blew its transmission in my driveway when he put it in reverse. Literelly, the casing broke open and spilled ATF everywhere.

One other car to consider...

My last vehicle was a 1994 Nissan truck. It had 160k miles on it when I gave it to my mother. Even with the miles the truck was flawless and still had ice cold AC. In all 160k miles the truck only had to have an alternator, water pump, and a starter replaced. Very very good record for a car of those miles and age. this truck was the car that sold me on Nissan quality. It now has 180k miles on the original engine and doesnt even leak a drop of oil.

Hope this all helps!

for the last 5 1/2 years ive used my 90 300zx as my daily driver/ jet ski tower...etc. since the car was built in 1990 the only maint was the timing belt ...water pump etc she now has 70,000 miles and i recently got my vert to be the daily driver. the z gets better mileage but it takes only premium whereas my vert takes the cheap gas..maybe it balances out.

my point is probly trivial and also maybe not so applicable with the 300. but it has been he most problem free daily ive ever owned(im 30 so ive had a few cars) the two kinds of cars ive had are rx7s and nissans since i was 16(not counting my 75 blazer that was a v8 but ran forever on like 5 cylenders, it was my first car and was a tank, but i doubt it would help for your daily)

the two nissans i owned were my z and a pathfinder. they both havew the same v6...just that the z has a diff cam and stuff. the pathfinder i traded for my z and it had 136,000 miles. it had a rear main seal leak but i never fixed it...point being that the pathfinder was also a tank( a 1990 as well) other than my vert all other cars i owned were driven in missouri where we get extreme seasons..cold and hot and i have to say that the v6 that nissan used in the 1990 cars that ive owned NEVER had any probs. get a well taken care of car with the same engine as i talked about!! either a pathfinder or the z! both look really good and from my experience they are extremely solid! reasonable gas mileage too. and an outo tranny so no need to race anyone.

just my experiences to try to help you out.

Goblues: yet another satisfied Nissan owner

After my truck I had I am a firm beleiver that Nissan has to have the best build quality out there.

In fact, my father and my best friend were both so impressed by the overall condition of my Nissan truck when I gave it to my mom that they both went out and bought a 2001 and 2002 Frontier, respectivly.

Something to think about.

Easy. 1987 Honda Civic Si. That was the last year of production of the 3rd generation chassis Civics, and they look a bit different then the 88+ cars that are so popular in the Honda world. The 87 is also the second year of Si production, so it has a fuel injected engine (91 hp rated D15A3 SOHC to be exact). They have incredible gas milage and they are very peppy for their power output (they weigh only 1800lbs). Due to their light weight and tossablility, they have gained an excellent autocross reputation. The main reason to get one IMHO is they are DIRT CHEAP because all the kids look for 88 and up cars. Expect to find a good, strong running Si with little rust for well under $800. I say all of this because I have one, and I love it to death. Right now it is on stands though, awaiting a brown cover ZC or an 86-87 Integra engine... then a DSM T-25 turbo... sleeper style.

I use a 2.5 RS as a daily driver. I'm not really a truck guy and wanted something with AWD. After I finish the RX7 and run some miles up on the Scoobie, I'll swap in a 2.0L turbo or add a small supercharger to the 2.5. With just like 3.5 psi the 2.5 equals the WRX in horsepower and has better torque. But the 2.5 can be a pain to tune so sourcing a low mileage WRX engine sounds better. Also you could get a Impreza L for cheap and swap on the 2.5 bumpers and dump in the 2.0L turbo. Not alot of 1998-2001 2.5 RS's on the road less than the first year US WRX's production run.

as much as i would love to have a cop car just to screw with peoples minds as they're driving i would not suggest an Ex-cop car.... think about it, they arent gonna get rid of it unless they NEED to, they drive those things horribly, i dont wanna think about what some of those cars have been through.

IMO... get an impreza
