I just read something that is very depressing (especially to those of the forced induction persuasion)...
"Mazda powertrain managers have ruled out the chance of turbocharging the RX-8 RENESIS rotary engine but admit they are looking at ways of increasing capacity of the 1300cc two-rotor engine, bringing more naturally aspirated power to the lightweight unit. "
This is an article that I read this morning on a link from rotary news.com (http://newsmotoring.news.com.au/news...E21822,00.html), there's the actual link. It has SOME good news, but there's that bad part about not turbocharging the RENESIS. :-(

More capacity?
Hmmm. Perhaps more capacity that adds a bit of weight? I'd settle for a 2 piece eccentric shaft, you know.

I would actually really like to see Mazda or someone start work on the 21A/22A engines again. They were mamouth sized engines (1054cc per chamber...2108cc all together!!!), it would be REALLY interesting to see how much power they could get out of one of those (w/out forced induction...maybe later). I like seeing how much "honest power" you can get out of a motor (and still keep it reliable) before you go the forced induction route to get some more power. I can only imagine what power they would make with an engine that size. I'm actually more excited about that engine than I am about the 3,4, and 6 rotor engines! Call me crazy, but I swear if I had to machining tools and materials I would love to try and tackle something like that.

2 engine power levels in the rx-8?? They must mean auto vs stickshift.
Um, like I said before MAZDA NEEDS A 3 rotor NA in the next rx-7. They're going NA for ultra reliability & increased engine life.
Tune that 3 rotor for 325hp/275 ft-lbs

That's also true though...I'd like the see a 3 rotor as something standard in America (they should've brought the Cosmo out here anyway). It's be easier and "more reliable" than tuning a 2 rotor (13B) for something high class.
