Anyone ever try and Reuse coolent seals?

I Just want to run past people if its a bad idea to reuse Inner and outer Coolent seals on an engine with low miles?
Can they only Compress once? I been told you need to get new ones if you crack the engine open.
However i want to know if anyone has reused them, and what happen? I know this may be a retarded question to most.. and I have heard most people say you need new ones. But i still wanted to run it past others. Thanks

if the engine hasn't been run you can probably do it, but if its been run the seals usually don't come out intact...

What if they are intact? that is basicly the question. If they are in one Peice can they be used? Or can they be compressed once?

The best questions: How many miles has the engine run, and how soft do the seals feel when you remove them? [Assuming that they're intact]

The only seals I know of that can, officially, be reused are Pineapple Racing's HD Water Seals.

its not fully apart. I took the back plate off and it just came out. No sticking or plastic seperation. I did use Grease to make them stick. And not Tack Glue.

I will get back to you on the rest

my engine blew after rougly 20k miles due to previous owner not remembering to add oil and killing its life. we re-used my coolant seals. they were stretched so we cut them and butted them against each other and added some rtv type sealant (the kind you use on the legs of the housings) to seal it up. 10k miles so far, holding up just fine! soon to be a 6 port turbo.

$106 + shipping. Relatively cheap price to pay to avoid the potential down time and labor of another rebuild.

how much is the wasted cleaner, engine oil, misc gaskets coolant and other misc parts you wind up breaking removing and reinstalling the engine cost compared to spending $100 on the coolant seals?

seriously, do it right or just send the car to the scrapper or to craigslist. i'm tired as hell of seeing multi colored 7's with duct tape holding them together.

the OEM coolant seals delaminate with less than 100 miles of use. some aftermarket coolant seals however ARE reusable, but they are more for racing applications and do not last as long as the OEM seals do.

I've got one of those mother in laws that has a saying for everything. One of hers is appropriate to your question.

"A lazy man does twice the work."
