Anyone ever put 305 tires out back?

I'm trying to find a wider rim for my car to fit something larger thana 245 in the back... the kicker is, I want to buy the same wheel style that I have right now.

I have found 2 18x9 with the correct offset and bolt pattern. I was going to put Nitto 555r s on my car in the back, but the only width they sell in 18 inch is 305 width.

Any chance in hell I can fit 305s on the back of my T2 with 18x9 rims and a 40mm offset? Any clue what profile size I should run?

Can anyone recommend anything in the 275 range that would be comparable to these tires, but fit on an 18" rim?

I run a 17x9.5 rim in the back of mine, not sure of the offset. I have a 255 tire on them and it is really really tight fit, and that is with me running coilover suspension. I would imagine that if you were going to run something that large you would need fender flares.

A no way a 305 would fit on a 9" rim. 245 is good.
B no way it would fit on car. I think soul is running 275 with flared fenders.

Assuming u have the right rim offset, width and suspension, what is the biggest tire width u can run on a 7 w/o spacers, flared fenders or rolling the fenders? I'm shopping right now and some advice would be appreciated

I run 17x9's in the back with 245 40 17's on my TII. Fits great. Grips good in a straight line till somewhere over 400 RWHP. Nothing will hold solid boost in a turn, for me anyway, so I don't concern myself with it...

Thats good to hear. This summer, I should have around 450 rwhp, maybe more... who knows. I'm in uncharted territory

Next year, I guess its time for fender flares or a tubbing because I'm not stopping till I hit 650 rwhp

Camaro SS's come with 17x9 wheels, 275/40/17s.. Kinda tight for a 9" rim, but 305 just isn't going to fit.

Why run a 9" rim with 245's on it? You can fit those on a 7" rim and save money and weight. And they fit good too.

I have magazine with FC with 275/40/17 front
315/35 rear
he cut the fenders out and used those like bolt on or rivit on fender flairs

I think it was a little over kill I will try and find it but I think I left it at with Chris at RP almost 99% sure i did.

its a super thick "Mazda RX7" magazine not " RX7 Magazine"

maybe give him email or a phone call if you want to know

Tony

87GTR: That sounds like it might be the Anniversary Racing Factory FC. It's black, right?

How many people are running 255s in the back? I found some decent looking and rated tires (though not drag radials) in a desireable size... Yokohama A032R. Anyone have any comments on that tire, or if a 255 will fit back there?

255's will without a doubt. I forget the proper spacing for this, but it is possible without rubbing. If (or when) I ever go for 17" wheels, I'll go this route. 8" in the front, 9" on the rear.

So, 255s on 8 inch rims with a 40mm offset will fit in the back of my 1990 T2? Just trying to clarify things here a bit....

305's

Steve Obolene (CA) has 335's on the rear and 275's front using CCW wheels and a MazdaSpeed flair kit..

He also cleaned house at Topeka last year at the SCCA Nationals.....BP class

I have 255's on 17x9's....With the right wheel and offset you can do alot more but you have to spend some cash on some real wheels and not on some weezle 17-7's or 8's...FC's are a bit limited on the front though...

Get this though, Kevin ASP Wyum has 315's on an FD on those CCW wheels and NO flair kit...NO BS....275's on the front...Its amazing to see

You should be able to fit much larger than a 255 as I am currently running 255/30-18 Pirelli P-Zeros on 8.5 inch with a 32mm offset rims on the back. I just measured and I have a good 2" or more of inside clearance. Outside I have at least an inch of clearance.
Later,
Ben

Personally, I wouldn't put anything more than 235 on an 8" rim. I'd go with a 9" rim if you are going to go with a 255 tire. More tire width on a rim that is too narrow for it isn't better than a properly sized tire. Most people would like to think that they are getting more use out of the extra width, but this isn't the case. I've seen 245/50R16 on the 16x7 stock Turbo2 wheels. The owner felt that it was good for some reason.
This past Sunday at autoX I saw a M2 tuned FD with 285/40R18 on all four corners. No fender rolling or flaring at all. Just the right tires with the right wheel offset. Mind you, this wasn't his street setup, but all the same there were no rubbing issues.

If you're talking to me, it depends. Right now, I push my car, it doesn't move But, in a month, the 20B will be in and running and it will have more power and torque than i know what to do with... then next year, its single turbo time, so I'll need some HUGE tires out back... Maybe I'll just settle for some 255 or 265s for now, should do well...

305 is pretty damn big. Problem your gonna have on a road car is a lot of understeer. You cant put anything that big in front without spacers and wide fenders. Im running a 265 on a 9.5 and it looks nice. Its even tucked under the fender too. And i didnt sacrafice a good balance.
