Anyone else have this happen when they installed aftermarket wheels?

Ive got an 88 vert and i ordered some Kazera KZ-A's for it off of tirerack. They claimed they would fit without a hitch and would provide all hardware and such and everything was great. They arrived tonight. I put the right rear on, goes on beautifully and boy does it look good. Went to put on the right front and it wont fit. The hub center is too big and the hole in the center of the wheel is too small. Has anyone else had something like this occur? It ticks me off because its from tirerack so now if they will even take it back I will have to package them up and send them back. I just found it odd that their website says they fit and the rears do but the fronts wont. Any suggestions to this?

Look for a center spacer in the rim. This did happen to me I ordered 4 rims to fit my Mazda 6. Three had the correct ceter spacer allready installed the forth had the wrong center spacer. You can probably knock it out with a socket extention.

And they came from Discount tire not tire rack.

Are you talking about the hubcentric rings? If so i already tried that. There isnt a spacer of any kind with these wheels. Im boggled and opened to suggestions.

This doesn't make any sense?
The FC runs some of the smallest hub centers in the industry.
If the LF fits, how come the opposite side front doesn't?
There has to be some kinda insert that you can remove?

Most of the aftermarket wheels run 70mm or 73mm center bores to accomodate all cars.
The FC runs a < 60mm hub diameter.

You mistook part of what i said. I put the right rear on first and it went on without a problem. The front is where im having my challenge. The hub diameter on the front is the same as it is on the rear however the difference is that its shorter on the rear but too long on the front if that makes since. So in turn its hitting the wheel on the front where its not on the rears. I even removed the dust cover on the wheel bearing to see if that was the problem and it helped but it was still prevalent. If i "knocked" out the center portion of the wheel if that makes since then it would fit but id loose my center cap and my dust cover would be exposed. I dont mind this if its safe. I was just curious if anyone else ran into this problem before because apparently Tirerack wasnt aware of it.

I had the same thing happen to me with the wheels I got off a '02 Protege 5. I had to get some thin spacers from Pep-Boys for the front wheels. The back fit perfectly.

It would make more sense if it was hitting when you were turning it (being tires) instead of when just mounting the wheels. When i ordered 225 tires from them they paused my order and convinced me to get 215s to be safe with the fronts.

Good move trying 2 remove the bearing dust cap as that is the first thing I can imagine getting in the way. Even with the stock wheels it seems like it can sometimes be difficult to align them right at first, do they fit enough to get 1 or 2 lugs on, maybe the way they fit just isn't snapping in yet. O, and 1 final thing, check the screws on teh hub, sometimes those loosen themselves up.

just knock out the center cap on the wheel. I just got some MB wheels from discount and had to do the same thing.

as long as you still have the dust cover on the bearing itself its fine.

Yep, it's the same with my GAB Sport wheels.
The center caps cannot fit due to the center hub.

Alright thanks guys, I guess i will remount them tonight then and just knock out that center part and do without the centercaps. Honestly i dont really care for the centercaps anyways. I was just concerned that altering the wheel might result in vibration or it might not be safe. Now i will just need to paint my dust covers on the front

Oh and for the record they did the exact same thing with me that they did for you. I had put some 225's on there with my initial order and they called and convinced me to go with 215's saying it wouldnt clear on the front.

seen that center cap thing happen when the incorrect offset was used. What offset are you using?

wheel wharehouse did the same to me. They sold me 225/40/17 F and 235/40/17 R and when they came they were 215 on the front. I got some bullshit story on the phone and didn;t want to ship the fronts back so I got a 50 dollar refund to my card.

with a 42 offset the 225's will fit but rub every now and then. I had 225's on the front before I got my new rims. Now I run a 215 with a 40 offset.

They are the Kazera KZ-A's in 18x7.5 with a 40mm offset. According to tirerack they are supposed to bolt right up and sit perfectly with 215s on them. They do on the rear but not the front. There is another 18 inch kazera thats a 48mm offset but i dont know if that will work. Right now Tirerack wants me to take pictures and send a synopsis on what has occured so their tech guys can resolve it. I dont know what will happen at this point. Hopefully its something simple. But again yalls suggestions are much appreciated.

The hub bore should be the same front to back. No difference. Check the wheel that fits the back on the front. If it doesn't fit flush and you know there are not hubcentric rings in the wheels (ie the ring everyone is telling you to knock out of the center), then you need to take a look at your hub as you probably have a hubcentric ring stuck on it already.

and 235/40-17 with no rub on 17x7's 40mm offset...

hmmm....I wish I had a micrometer handy. I may try to measure mine this weekend. I had the same problem as TheRotaryRocket85 but I couldn't get my wheels on either of the front hubs even with the centers out and the dust caps off. I also checked to make sure there were no hubcentric rings on there. As I recall... the front hubs did a little step and got wider just before the wheel could come in contact with the flat mounting surface...can anyone verify this? I had to get spacers for my front wheels.

we told him to knock out the center cap, not the hubcentric ring. all the center cap does is clip into place and 'look pretty' by covering up the dust cap on the front, or the axle nut on the back.

and FYI, 235 is too wide for a 7.

how is the offset going to make a difference at this part of the wheel?
but just for the record, for me it was 17x9 +17 offset.

yes, hubcenters are the same front and back. look at the stock wheels, hub centric front and back, and all 4 wheels have the same hub center size.

are you sure the hub center on the wheel didn't step in a little instead? thats how they were on my MB's, the hub center stepped in where the center cap was supposed to clip in.

The hub center is the same size on both the front and rear. The catch though is that on my car at least the front hubs are longer than the rear thus they hit the wheel before it has a chance to sit up flush with the hub because the hole on the wheel is too small on the end.. Im off tomorrow from work so in the morning i will snap some pictures and stuff for Tire rack. Ill post them up on here so yall see what im talking about. I know its confusing trying to explain on here. Once you see it its obvious as can be. Trouble is im not sure there is an easy solution to this unless one of yall has any ideas. I guess we will see.

This is way too tight on the fronts.
A 7.5", +35 is minimal in my book.
With 225's up front, it should hit stuff on the inside.

No, the higher offset pushes the wheel inside more.
This makes the inside clearance worse.
Even if the width is 7.0", the +48 offset makes it impossible to fit up front (with stock type shocks).

If it fits without rubbing or clearance issue, then I don't see how it is "too" wide. My car isn't NA and if they would fit with the stock fenders, I would much rather be running 275's

Are you trying to say it is too wide for the rim? If so, I agree that it is borderline, but it is going to depend on the tire and the wheel. In my case, the shoulders are squared appropriately and the tire is not pinched. Contact patch is flat, not bowed. For my setup, it works perfectly. YMMV
