Anybody know what I could get for a 87 turbo block?
Anybody know what I could get for a 87 turbo block?
I'm selling the engine, with or without turbo/intercooler, anyone know what price range I should be looking at selling it at? The engine ran really well, but I ran it lean while tuning it and I am afraid I've blown a seal in the trailing chamber, a compression check, to me looked like it was missing, i'm not too sure, it would just up to around 75, but I couldnt really tell if it missed or not. The front chamber ran like a champ at 90. The car runs, but does not rev past 4500 rpm....So assuming that its blown, what a good price range for just block?

This assumes he can actually GET the motor apart. The big 19mm bolt on the front of the shaft usually requires about 3 minutes with the oxyacetylene torch as well as 600ftlb with the impact gun (I take apart 1-2 engines weekly for the last 7 years). Plus removing the 2-1/8" flywheel nut and then the flywheel. And all 18 tension bolts that sometimes require a breaker bar, as due to their elasticity they won't always break loose with the impact gun.
Then he has to guess at what condition the parts are in, describe them and take pics and post on the forum for potential buyers, and package and ship the parts. Not everyone knows how to do this.
The irons go for around $100-200 per set of 3 and the rotors $50-100 each most of the time. I just bought 2 t2 rotors on ebay for $51, btw. Rotorhousings are difficult for most people to judge condition-wise. Also, with a blown apex seal, one rotor and rotorhousing are going to be bad right off the bat.
IF he were to break it apart he could potentially make $300 off of all the parts. Most amateurs would rather simply sell the block whole, as is, for better or worse for $100-150 and be absolved of responsibility for trying to judge the individual parts' condition.
As for a blown apex shortblock it is worth $150-200. Bear in mind that shipping a shortblock must be done via freight/truck and will run $100-200 in and of itself depending on distance from seller.
To the OP, I would be interested in the shortblock if you do decide to sell it fairly cheap, but shipping will be a solid $150-175 right off the bat, and since the parts in total are worth $300 or so best case, you can do the math as to what I can give for the block.
