Well.. Dzltreen or something lives in Wilsonville and he makes front lips with fiberglass.. so he'd be a good place to start...

I have some experience with fiberglass. What your asking sounds pretty damn expensive. Building a mold for this top to accuratly fit onto your car is going to take a lot of time; thats where the cost is going to come from. Its also going to be expensive because the part is going to be pretty much a 1 off. Even if he has the ability to make a ton off the molds, the market is going to be really small. No one is going to want to keep this large mold around as well.

****.. if you could make the mold accurately enough for production, I'd keep the mold around. I think there IS enough demand for this sort of thing.. but the money cost in designing the 4-5 prototypes that would have to be pretty much thrown away... the mold.... and the time spent is a big PITA... Lots of dough... not worth it.

^Werd. Yes it would be way too expensive for me to want to do just to sell two or three of them. I would have to sell them for 4 grand a peice just to pay me for my time, the mold and the materials because I would only sell maybe five of them. you are better off just getting a coupe.

i work with fiberglass every day. I cant see it being that difficult but definetly a very expensive process and it would only be worth doing if you could sell quite a few of them i agree with dltreezan, just buy a coupe. it would be cool though. if you do decide to do it let me know i may be interested in buying one if the price is right

I once had the idea of buying a junk 240sx coupe shell... cutting off the top and bending/welding/forming metal to fit the stock locations of the rx-7 vert. and If I had a vert to use a mock up car that could sit in the garage for a few months I would do so, then let someones with fiberglass experience make a mold and produce the kit. with one term being i got one of them for free. He could sell the rest and keep the mold.

werd though. Where to get a top and how much? I am going to be making a cover for the vert with the two humps behind the seats like a solstice. Mucho sicko looking. I think I will do it in CF too. I just need a damn steady job, you wouldn't think it would be that hard to be stable but holy ****.

I know someone with a custom made top for a vette, that thing cost $4000 and I bet the guy who makes it still has not re-couped his money.

How do you intend to mount it to the body of the convertible?

Welcome to the rotary world. You should come to some of the RPNW meets. I'll be at the next one.
