I think that is a part of the louvers. Some of the escorts came with that it was so you could lift the louvers off the rear glass to clean it. I could be wrong about the FC though.

I know - I added the part about it being ugly!

I'd actually be surprised if a piece of that nature could last 15 - 20 years in order for someone to still have one.

I met an older guy in Espanola Ontario with a mint '87, first owner, something like 27000 km on it. He had the louvers, and I do believe he also had the 'roof band'. Not very tasteful, in my opinion, but the car was friggin' amazing.

Aside from the pictures in this thread, I've never seen one either. It looks like it was an attempt to black out part of the B-pillar to make the hatch look larger and the pillar look lighter and thinner. Might work from a distance but I'll bet it looks pretty goofy up close.
