Any way to make sure tranny works?

So my transmissions shot and should be out today or tommorow and the new one i purchased from Triton Motors should be here in a few days.

I was just wondering if there was anyway that i could insure that the transmission is in working order before i throw everything back on and drive away just to have it not shift or something.

I was thinking i could just take it off the jackstands and drive it around the block real quick, but when i took the exhaust off it fell into dust and isnt going back on i think the only salvagable piece is the downpipe so right now its just on the manifold and my neighbor is a cop and i dont know how loud it would but i expect very very loud.

Could i hop in the car on jackstands start it and run it through the gears? or would it have enough vibration to knock it off the stands? Im a tad afraid of that route so that probably wont happen.

Should I take it off the stands run it through the gears then start it run it through the gears (both times with clutch in by the way) then let the clutch out and let it stall to make sure the clutch is working right and the tranny theoreticly should be working right and then just assume its working right without knowing?

One last thing in the thread that shows what all our cars come equipped with it says that my car shouldnt have LSD and says its not even an option. (its a 90 n/a vert by the way) but i noticed while i was taking the driveshaft off (spinning the passenger side tire to get to all the bolts) that the wheels spun different ways. Maybe im an idiot but i thought that was a deffinite sign of limited slip.

Thanks
Matt

If its just the downpipe it will be loud as hell. Think setting off car alarms when you start it up loud. If it were me I would fire it up and take it around the block, but be prepared for how loud it is. Unless your neighbor hates you, he should let you go if you tell him its just to make sure the tranny works. Also, the wheels spinning the opposite way is a sign of no LSD. With a good LSD they spin the same way.
So how did the exhaust get ruined? Did it get bent up?

Thanks sideways. Gotcha on the LSD, coulda sworn it was spinning opposite meant limited silp. As for the exhaust like i said it pretty much fell to a pile of rust when i got it off most of the bolts broke and when i got it down both mufflers were broken off the y-pipe and the cats have holes all through them suprisingly the car isnt all that loud like that but theres no way its going back on even if i wanted it to. As for the cop that lives right across the street...yea he hates me i dunno why it might be the time were i was rollin in the vert and he yelled at me for taking a turn to fast but i know i was under the speed limit and he was with some girl and trying to show off so i told him to **** off because yelling at me isnt going to impress that girl and she just laughed at him but yea maybe ill just try that when hes not home.

I've had my car running with nothing but my exhaust manifold attached and damn was it loud. If the cop is within 15 miles, he'll know about it.

Well thats no good the town I live in isnt even five square miles and has a half dozen cops.
I suppose i could wait and get exhaust on the car to test it out but then i wouldnt know if the new tranny was f'ed up untill then and that would waste alot of time.

For me it was loud enough that the only time I floored it my ears were ringing for literally 15+ minutes. It would set off car alarms from several blocks away at idle, but I have ported intake and exhaust with no diffusers so its louder than normal. Regardless, its loud enough to get a ticket if the cop wants to give you one.

My favorite was on my Uncle's car where a mostly deaf neighbor asked them if they were remodeling their house because the car sook a picture off her wall. That wasn't an rx-7, though.
