any power gained by taking off a/c?

any power gained by taking off a/c?

about how much power do you guys think that a/c pump is taking from the tires with the a/c off?
i tried searching, but all the threads that popped up where blank.

I can't give you a specific number, but its not so much the power that the a/c is robbing from the engine (which is negligible), it's the weight of the whole a/c system. I just took off my a/c compressor and its very very heavy. So you get power thru weight reduction.

it's not the HP numbers ... it's the weight. The HP gained will be very minimal. If the compressor is off, and the compressor clutch is disengaged, you won't be losing more than 1/2 HP

yeah thats what i was thinking. one of my friends said he thought he gained a lot of power when he took the a/c belt off his bmw.

unless his a/c compressor was engaged all the time, your friend was full of crap.
