Any OTHER way to unflood?

I am doing alot of work on my intake system and my motor is now flooded preaty bad. I did not depressurize the fuel system before I removed the injectors and they just dumped a ton of gas in the engine. I did the normal unflood procedure, and it took a good 20-30 seconds of turning the starter to get the gas out. At this rate the starter is not going to last very long. And it also drains the battery. Well I have since taken the whole intake back apart due to some troubles, and now it is flooded again for the same reason .

Well I was thinking that maybe I could stick a long tube down inside the motor through one of the spark plug holes and just siphon out the gas. Then just turn over the motor by hand and siphon out the next chamber; then one more time and it should be good. I could then do the normal procedure to remove the remaining gas. But for a bad flood like the one I am dealing with; I think that this method may speed up the process and make it a lil easier on the starter and the motor.

Siphoning out the gas won't really help.. The problem isn't so much that there's gas in the chamber (that doesn't help, but that's not the big problem). The problem is that gasoline takes the oil coating off the housing, and you can't build up compression.

That's why it doesn't matter if you leave your car flooded for a minute, or a year.. it won't unflood itself just by the gas evaporating or anything--you need to re-coat the housing with oil.

There are a few ways to do it, tho.. One way is to *NOT* inject gasoline, and let your OMP do the work. On the 86-88's, pull the EGI fuse, and crank it with the pedal floored for a while.. On the 89-91's, you don't have to pull the fuse, just crank it floored.

Another way is to try to get some external source of lubricant into the engine. You can pull the lower plugs and pump in some ATF/MMO/2-cycle oil. An easier way is to pull off a vacuum hose and have the engine vacuum pull some atf/mmo/2-cycle oil in. I've unflooded my car (OMP off, so can't use that method) a few times by this method with 2-cycle oil.

A fuel cut switch is a nice idea, too.. Sounds like you may have one, just didn't use it... hehe

My suggestion would be to clean and put the spark plugs back into the engine then unplug the egi injection fuse under the hood and crank engine for a few seconds. Place fuse back and engine should be fine.
