the fuel gauge doesnt have a fuse by itself.....its all connected to everything else....the headlights does have fuses for the motor...why would u want to take it out unless its broken?

The same problem as me, my fuel gauge doesn't work either. I just got my 87 back from the auto electrician today. Most of my wiring at the back of the dash was corroded so I got all the gauges rewired. All of them now work properly except the fuel gauge.
The guy at the auto electricians said it is a problem with the sender, located in the fuel pump. So Im just weighing up my choices as to what to do. The sender is available from wreckers, but they probably wont want to disassemble the pump just for that. I've been quoted $250 for a 2nd hand fuel pump, yet a new pump can cost $500+
Mazda Japan Imports new fuel sensors for $175 + handling, so thats my best bet. Wreckers charge around $100 for 2nd hand sensors but they would be worn around the same amount as the one in your car, so its best to get a new one.
Does anyone know if it would be better to put a Series V or VI fuel pump in? is the sender still in the pump in later models?
