any experience with bad oil pressure sensor?

i was jsut curious how many people have had their oil pressure sensor sending unit go bad. my guages work cuz when you hook the sending wire to the guage to something with volts it shoots up, but when you hook it to the oil pressure sending unit it doesn't do anything at all... any one els have this issure before? how about something i might be missin?

yeah sometimes mine shows it good, and then it will just fall to zero...I freaked out a couple times, but oil was topped off and no leaks. Then it will just shoot right back up without doing anything....needless to say, I installed an RB oil pedestal and my autometer pressure sender today, just need to hook up the gauge and I don't have to be scared any more...

Actually your doing something quite Wrong.

The wire that is on the sender is looking for a ground or the resistance out of the sender unit.

IF you read YOUR FSM, you'll find a section that deals with the pressure reading. It has you install a resistor of a given value on that sender wire and the other end of the resistor to a known good gnd. The gauge should then read a certain pressure. You do this repeatedly with resistors of different values which in turn give different pressure readings on the gauge.

Like TurboRat said above, both turbo and non turbo pressure senders are the same part.

I doubt the sender was/is the real problem. Check the FSM out.

I'm pretty sure that the oil pressure sending unit grounds on the firewall near the clutch slave cylinder, using that little spade terminal thing. Maybe that became dirty or even unplugged?

no, that is the condensor. The Sender grounds to the block.

If the sender goes bad, and the condensor is disconnected or removed, it will toast the gauge as well.
