Any Exhaust Recommendations?

Ok, I am trying to find out what kind of header I need. The new header needs to mount to the down pipe and have an O2 senser fitting. I currently have the stock header(collector) going to a RB downpipe (made for convertables), then on to a custom intermediate pipe connecting to Apexi N1 duels. I have been looking at the RB road race header and the RB streetable header. I don't care about how loud it is or if it will ever pass emissions, but I do want it to fit correctely and performance is always good. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Can you explain a little better what your setup is?

You can use an RB streetable header/collector and pre-silencer combo to replace all the cats and the stock manifold.

I already took out both of the pre-cats with a RB downpipe(one for verts) and had a peice of exhaust pipe cut to the correct length to replace where main cat was and have the air pump going into the custom intermedite pipe like the OEM cat did. I don't think I need the pre-silencer combo, I just want a header to connect the engine to the downpipe replacing the stock manafold. Did that help at all?

AFAIK there isn't a header that short. You will have to get a combo or have the pipes re-made to fit with the header.

Why do they make the RB downpipe then? I could always shorten my custom intermediate to make more room if I need to. But don't they make the RB header to fit the RB downpipe?

They make the down pipe for those people that don't want a header. Thats why. They aren't meant to go together in stages.

So the header replaces the stock pre-cats and could mount directly to the main cat or a pre-silencer?

The streetable header/collector will only "bolt-on" with the addition of the correct pre-silencer for your car. Otherwise it has to be custom made pipe from the end of the header to the Cat-back or whatever else your going to use.

So the header is like 3 1/2 ft. long and would replace my down pipe also? you need no downpipe with a header?

If you buy the header you either make your own CUSTOM pipe or buy the prsilencer to make it a direct bolt on combo. I don't know or care how long the header is. I have a Road Race header not a streetable. I don't have access currently to a Streetable header.

what kind of power gain does the streetable header have over the stock collector with aftermarket downpipe combo? I appreciate you helping me to understand this, 1987RX7guy.

I don't own a vert so I couldn't tell you. But I am sure that if you call up Racingbeat they will tell you a definitive answer. I wouldn't know what figure to give you when swapping from down pipe to header but I am sure it will give you a power increase.

BTW- No problem

It will most likely be in the way. I own a vert and have the full RB exhaust system. It sticks down past the trans about an inch and a half. I was going to get chassis braces, but I'll probably fab my own now that the header sticks down a bit.

As for power, I noticed a good difference in power output. Also be prepared for a large increase in noise. A header on a rotary has the largest sound increase of any header I have seen/heard. Plus you get to have lots of flames

It's well worth it even if you aren't going for performance, mainly because the stock manifold is very exspensive lol. It is also much lighter the stock manifold.

Here's some things to look for when you install it based on my experience:
Rethread the studs just in case. I had a hellofa time putting two nuts back on and had to take the whole thing off again.
Clean the header very well when you are done, it'll keep oil and what not from burning to the header.
If you are worried about high heat under the hood, exhaust wrap the header. Since the heatshield doesn't work with any current header I know of, you will get alot more hot air in the engine compartment, even in a few minutes.

Hope that helps too.

I'm not sure about the comparison for cat back.
But yes, just the RB mufflers will bolt to the stock y-pipe.

i remember seeing someone saying the RB system is real heavy, just wanted a comparison between the two..

also what I mean was like, if i have say th RB headers with a high flow cat, what can i do to the ypipe to only get one muffler tip? do i have to chop it off and weld it closed on the other side? i'm unfamiliar with how the system works
