Any else get nervous when they drop their FC off for work?

Well I just dropped my car off over at Central Florida Turbo and I am nervous for some reason. The guy doing the work is an excellent installer so I have faith in him and the company.

I dropped her off to get the following done; New oil lines installed, new diff mount installed, battery relocation, front mount intercooler installed, vacuum leak fixed, and brakes and pads on the front axle.

I am just a bit nervous about some of the technicalities. Like having to move some of the items around in order to fit the Greddy piping. (I.e. fuse box)

Also I bought breakers for the battery relocation so hopefully he knows whats up.

I know its pretty straight forward stuff, but nevertheless I'm still nervous.
Am the only one that feels like this ? I'm sure theres got to be others of you out there.

BTW Chanukah came early this year

I know how you feel I dont even feel great when the mazda dealer touches my car. I only go to one mechanic and he owns a rx7 Sooooo I have total trust in him also he lets me watch and learn so I could do the things myself next time.

but hopefully everything will turn out great for you and your car.

Yea...

So much **** has happenned to me in the last 10 years, its normal that I'm nervous when I leave my car alone and its not in my garage. Now that its freshly painted, its even worse...

Exactly why I do everything by myself. I have trouble trusting people working on my car. Hell, I'm such a paranoyac ************ that I'd even be nervous letting Aaron work on my car while I'm not there. lol

No offense Aaron. I'd need to be on medication when it comes to my 7.

Yeah, I do all my own work as well, just because I know that I'd waste my money paying someone else to do a fairly simple task. I haven't run into any situation where I felt that I needed someone else to do it. EXCEPT putting a convertible top on my car. I'd rather punch myself in the nads than try to put another one on. It sucked. Hard.

I get a sinking feeling anytime I have to take my 7 for "professional" care, which is why I try to fix whatever I can myself. Last Friday I took my 7 in for new tires to a place with excellent Tire Rack recommendations. Somehow they stripped two of my OEM lug nuts and broke off one stud, which of course they then charged me to repair. Despite their assurances, I'm sure it was due to incompetence/overtorquing. There's something really galling about having to pay $250 just to have a set of freakin' tires mounted and balanced and to get an alignment. (Suburban DC pricing sucks.)

Being nervous is normal. What might help is for you to ask about their policy regarding you being in the shop to watch them and ask questions. Some shop guys are dicks when it comes to that, others are not. As much work as you're having done, there should be quite a bit of open communication with them about how you want things done. Try to ask questions in a way that won't trigger any defensiveness, maybe they will respect you enough to let you watch. Just don't offer the guy a beer until after work hours, it's your baby he's working on lol.

Lets be honest here, I don’t think it matters if we do our own work or take it to a shop to have it done. In some way shape or form an RX7 = STRESS.

You just have to trust the tech. That's what it comes down to. I have recently learned that the hard way.

I had a tech at my work do some work on my TII. While in the middle of the job he was telling me that a rotary is not diffrent then a piston engine. My heart sank. He won't be touching my car again!!!! Lucky for me this website help me find an rx7 guru down the road to help me do the work Thanks BlueII

That feeling is true for any make or model--it all depends on who is doing the work and how reputable that person is. On my other car, I do only oil and filter changes and leave the more major work to a dealership; who are honest and do good work. But there are some who don't even bother to properly diagnose a problem.

I could rant about it, but I'd be delving into Lounge material pretty quickly. I'll only say that on another car, another dealership thought it was a transmission problem, it turned out to be something totally unrelated and it took me just under a minute to figure out--there's even a technical service bulletin for it.

These days though, with my RX7 it's a moot point since I do a good 99% of the work myself.

Bottom line, being nervous about something you put blood, sweat and tears into is a pretty normal reaction.

I don't trust any "shop" to work on my FC.

Just my local Mid TN guys, who help out when needed.

My seatbelts will probably be broken FOREVER because I refuse to take it to the dealer. And thats free.

I'll trust the dealership when free parts are in the deal. Push come to shove, you pull your interior trim off to double check their work. Its a REALLY simple job.
