Antenna woes!

What I thought would be a simple mast replacement on the electric antenna on my 88 vert has turned into a head scratcher.

I had to cut the antenna to get the assembly out from the fender to work on it...the mast wouldn't retract since the nylon push rod was broken and jammed in the drum.

I've been able to get all the broken nylon out and reassemble the drum but now I can't pull the last of the mast out of the housing. There doesn't seem to be any way to disassemble the unit any further.

I've gone through all the posts on this forum and various other places on line and I'm stumped. I've attached a couple shots of the unit in its current state.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Chapter 15 of the workshop manual explains how to disassemble and reassemble the antenna. I recommend that you look at the manual prior to working on your car.

Wow, does nobody realize that we have a FAQ sticky?

When you go to the 2nd Generation Specific forum (or any of the generation forums), you will see a Frequently Asked Questions "sticky" near the top of the page. You should at least browse through this prior to posting technical questions. In this forum FAQ, when you click on Manuals & Links it will take you to a section that lists several hyperlinks to free online manuals. I prefer the foxed.ca site because it has the most documents.

The workshop manual is commonly called the Factory Service Manual (FSM). The 1988 manual works for the 1986-88 RX-7s, while the 1989 manual works for the 1989-91 RX-7s. The 1989 also contains some extra information that is sometimes useful for 1986-88 owners.

Here is a direct link to our FAQ:

Hey Evil...thanks. Trust me...I did a lot of looking around the site before posting my initial inquiry. Unless new guys like me are directed to the proper locations for things like this they can be tough to find.

I'll pour over the manual that I just downloaded.

Thanks again.
