antenna wire in radio

Hi
This is my first post here, as I just got my rx7 a few days ago, an 86 gxl.

Today I changed the radio in it, got all the wiring done, except for the antenna, the plug just wont fit in my aftermarket radio, the metal thing at the edge is too big for the hole I got in the radio, has anyone came to this before?
So now if i turn the radio on, i have really bad reception, the antenna goes up, everything works, it's just that i can't plug that damn wire

Thanks for the help
Frank

well, I installed a cheap deck into my RX-7 a few days ago and the antenna cable hooked up fine, however when putting a deck in my wife's Saturn the car's connector was way too frickin' small... I keep forgetting to look online for an adapter, as I'm sure such a thing exists since we're probably not the first people to experience this.

I though about this too, but I don't really know where to look for one

There are two antenna connectors for the 86 GXL, one for the windshield antenna and one for the rear fender antenna.

Perhaps you have the wrong antenna end?

I didn't know there was two, I only saw one in there, I'll take a look again tomorrow
But even if there's 2, I guess they're the same size so none of them would fit in my new radio, anyway I found an universal antenna adapter on a local store's website, so if none of them fit, I'll probably go buy that thing
Thanks!

Also, I didn't want to start another thread, as it may have been discussed over but I didn't find anything searching, the previous owner told me that the car doesn't seem to use that much oil, I think some people say to check it every time you get gas, but I think it has been like a month since last time he put some in. There was still some in, not a lot tho but still higher than the low mark.

oil use will depend on throttle position on the 86 GXL. If you baby the engine, you won;t use much oil.

Even if you drive the engine normally it should less oil than your typically GM V8 of the same period. Normal oil useage is between 1 and 2 quarts per 1000-3000 miles.

All rotary owners should check their oil level at each fill up.

As far as the radio antenna leads, they are standard size Motorolla Antenna leads. You should not need any special adapter for the main power antenna to plug into any aftermarket radio.

I knew about the 1 to 2 quarts per 1000-3000 miles thing, i did read the faq about the oil usage, i wouldn't be asking if it was using a lot. I know it will use a lot more oil if the car is pushed, but I don't think the engine has been baby'ed that much, so I was just wondering if there was a known issue with oil being injected in the engine, I have yet to confirm how much oil it actually use, but that's just what the previous owner told me so I just didn't want to be worried too much as it is my first rotary.
Thanks again for the info!

you can premix it just to be safe if you dont think your oil injector pump is working

Well I guess I need an adapter because I took a look again and nothing fits in my aftermarket radio, the hole in the radio is too small for that wire to fit in, slightly too small. It just doesn't go in... If they're all of a standard size... well I guess my aftermarket radio is smaller...
Maybe I could take the antenna wire and try to make the end smaller so it could fit in, it's an extension cable so if it ends up messing up the wire, I would still have the rest of the wire in the car.
For the other antenna wire, It's the other end of the wire, a female pin. So I wasn't using the wrong one.

The female connector in the car goes to the window antenna... it seems to get really good reception compared to the fender antenna... If I were you I'd make up a wire with two male leads on it to connect to that... that's what I did and I'm very pleased with the reception.
