Antenna stays up when not on tuner

i just installed a new alpine head unit in my 89 vert. The old unit would lower antenna when not on tuner, this one antenna stays up no matter the mode.
How to remedy ?
Thanks!

I had an alpine 142, just replaced it with alpine UTE 62bT. The old one has 12v to antenna wire on tuner, drops to 0 off of tuner. New one has 12 on same blue antenna wire whenever unit is powered up regardless of mode.
I wonder if there's a setting somewhere I've overlooked?

If that is the way that the head unit is designed, then there's no way around it except a manual override switch. Unless it is in the settings menu in your head unit.

Just spoke to alpine tech support. All their new radios provide 12V constant at the antenna. Why? Something about newer cars not needing the power antenna. I bet its cheaper to make the radio without that feature..follow the $$$.

So, either use the older head unit, or rig a switch. Sucks.

Maybe you could run it off off a switched out on your new head unit, if it has one, of course.

Since the power push button on the headrest speakers are bypassed, that switch now powers antenna. I can live with that..

I just took out the old Mast type antenna and use a Rubber Ducky antenna.
I find I don't really listen to radio all that often when my Stereo is on,as I got a USB stick with all the "good Music" I'll ever need is on it!

Sure sounds like an Alpine cost save to me. Most aftermarket decks just supply constant, even 10 years ago it was like that.

If I recall correctly the stock antenna relay is 12v on..
...err..something about reversing the polarity of the new antenna relay is needed.

Old alpine unit switched antenna 12v on/off, antenna went up on tuner, down otherwise. New one doesn't, but I found a workaround.
