Another Silicone Rant
Well when I pulled the OMP off ( which I intend to delete ) to clean things up and have a look at things I found the inlet to the pump pretty much plugged off . I don't believe it was intentional because I found the same mess in different areas . The OMP was all hooked up including the linkage . Must have been enough oil getting through which I guess wouldn't take much to do the lube job. The same kind of BS was in the oil pick up on the main oil pump and a large amount around the pan gasket . Now that I have been digging in the engine I find the engine maybe had a o ring seal gone in the cooling system ( quite a bit of rusty looking **** in the bottom of the pan ).. So I guess the moral of the story is if you want to screw your little engine use lots of silicone everywhere you can put it. I don't think I am exaggerating to say there was maybe a 1/3 of a large tube used in total . Can't believe how nice the inside of the little engine is considering all. Gerald m.

Caution use with care!!
Nope no o ring Dave just enough silly putty to plug a elephants trunk. I know that people probably are tired of me bitching about silicone but it just overwhelms me to think that someone that could R and R the pump and work on the little engine would do that , even the dam EGR valve with gasket had a bunch smeared around it . When I deleted the OMP in the Dragon I just used a O ring from one of my standard O ring kits and it fit just fine .
I guess my main goal is to try to educate some of the younger guys to use this stuff with a little care but I think I'm barking up a dead horses ***. It's great stuff if used in moderation but in this case all was needed was a dam O ring from the local hardware . Sure glad I didn't try running the engine with all that **** in the main oil pump sump . Oh well I'm sure it will happen time and time again.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change ,to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference I think that applies here . Have a good one . Gerald m.

To a large degree you guys seem to have more trouble with application methodology than the product itself.
Most people are hardwired to think that more is better, which leads to excess globs of sealant spooging out of the joint they're meant to cover. It's this excess that's pissing y'all off, not the sealing abilities of the RTV itself.
Have you seen any of the supercar factory tours?
They use adhesives/sealants extensively but it's robotically applied and a wonder to behold.
The placement and amount is perfect, no hanging goobers to befoul the surroundings.
Bet no one here would bitch about Maclaren's use of sealants...
