Another OMP question (not about removal!!)

The OMP on my s5 TII is dead; so I plan to replace it with another one but I intend on disabling the new one so that I can just run pre-mix and hopefully then the OMP will be less likely to fail again... so here's the question:

I get CEL codes for the OMP positioning sensor, now I've checked the FSM, and I'm a bit confused about it; Is the positioning sensor a seperate component that I will also need to replace, or is it part of the entire unit? I don't want to change out the OMP only to find that my ECU is fried two days later!!!

This is a good way to destroy your engine if you don't know what you're doing. I'd just get a new OMP and leave it enabled. OMP's rarely fail, you're probably just unlucky.

Error codes won't fry your ECU. If you disable your OMP you need to add 1 oz. of 2 stroke oil for every gallon you put in at the gas station. Every single time, no forgetting! Otherwise you won't have any internal lubrication and you'll destroy your engine really fast. The OMP has been covered 1,000 times before. Do a search if you really want to learn how.

Until you get a new OMP, add 2 stroke oil to your gasoline or just don't drive.

I do not own a series five and therefore have never seen an electrical OMP.

I can see where your coming from after looking at the S5 wiring diagrams. They show one six socket plug on the OMP (which has and is the Stepping Motor). Then they *SEEM* to show the Positon Sensor in another location and it has three sockets on it and the wiring diagram shows it, the position sensor is a pot or some short.

I'm guessing the Position Sensor is inside the OMP itself. If I had one of those cars, I guess I'd count the number of wires coming out of the omp and see if they add up to 9 wires. If so then I'd say the Positon Sensor is insidr the OMP itself.

Maybe someone that has seen a series five and dealt with it can answer your question.....someday. I don't KNOW and can only guess.

EDIT::: Read this thread https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...hlight=omp+ecu

In that thread is a description of the elec omp and after reading it I came to the conclusion that the Positon Sensor is indeed inside the OMP. The plug just seems to be located in a different place than the six socket plug that is dedicated to the Stepping Motor. I just did a search on this forum to find that thread.

EDITED AGAIN: By the way, the guy called ROTARY GOD should not be listened to . He does NOT know squat about the OMP. The first guy on that thread is closer to being right.

The position sensor is attached to the OMP, but comes off with 2 screws. Its just a black box with a push-in type potentiometer. So, if you got another OMP, its feasable you could just replace that one part. Unfortunately, you cannot get that part by itself... dealer says the only way to get new parts for the OMP is to buy the entire OMP. No way I'm paying that much. I'll get an Rtek ECU, an S4 front cover/OMP and call it good before I pay 2200 or whatever they want at the stealership.
