another no-start, what do you think?...VERY COLD

went out to try to start my 7 the other afternoon, it's an 88 SE
wouldn't even crank, not once, i tried for like 20 minutes

my guess is that the battery is frozen and i'm not getting enough voltage, because for the last few days up here it's been below freezing (~20 degrees F) and it's been windy...wicked cold (upstate NY)

once in a while it will do this, but usually after a few minutes of trying i'll at least get a crank

any ideas?

she hasn't been driven since sunday, by the way, today is thursday, and i tried to start it yesterday

thanks

Does your radio/etc work fine and lights/etc or are they VERY dim. Another thing to try is to turn on the lights, crank, and then watch as they regain power. If they're VERY slow to brighten back up or remain dim, chances are it's the battery or faulty connections, if you've still got good power to everything, it could be the starter solenoid/etc. (does it click when trying to start or just do nothing at all?)

i don't want to try moving my headlights, because they're probably frozen with a nice solid sheet of ice over where they meet the bumper/hood and stuff, like my door was :x

when i turn the key it just clicks, and there is a definite click, each time i turn they key all the way

Heat lamps.

That click is typical of a dead/dying battery. Put a charger on it over night then give it a shot.

yeah i know, but i'm at college right now
and this is where i can work on the car...too bad it's so god damn cold and snowy

i will charge the battery at lab tomorrow and see what happens, because it's been doing this clicking crap for a few months, and while revving or driving, at above ~1000 rpm the voltage jumps right up to 14.4, at least on the stock voltmeter

at night with the headlights on and stereo on, if the brake is applied the voltmeter will typically say ~12v or sometimes even a little less

o yea my ebay fartcannons came so i'll be doing my exhaust (stock manifold ->rb presilencer/cat replacement pipe->stock y-pipe w/ mufflers

also my front rotors came, so my rears should be arriving soon, along with some AXXIS ceramic pads all around...woohoo

thanks for the replies
