Another idle issue...

Well, I've always had idle issues with my car (89 TII). Normally it's just a cold start issue, I'd start it up and it would rev to 3000 but it would drop immediately... and then sometimes sputter and die. Normally what I do is I manually hold the revs up at 3000 for 15 seconds, then after driving normally for 2-3 mins it won't die on idle.

Today, I started my car for the first time in a month. I guess I push my electrical system to begin with (particularly my black magic efan) and even the FD alternator will only bring my system to about 13.5 volts at best. It barely started (I was at 10.9 volts) but when it did it immediately revved up to about 4k. It's never done this before so I believe it was because I tightened the linkage where the accelerator cable and throttle body meet. It was really loose before, so I tightened it and bam, suddenly I'm idling at 3.5k rpms. So i loosened it back to the way it was, and my idle drops back down to about 500-750 (but if I rev past 2k, then it will idle at 2k forever).

The way it is right now, hitting any bump will make the accelerator cable bounce, which will give the car gas by itself. This is what I think I should do (just wanted to see if this is a good idea or not):

1. Take off the TMIC, so I can reach the TPS.
2. Tighten the linkage between the accelerator cable and TB
3. Adjust the TPS from its current settings to make up for tightening the accelerator cable

I will have to search through the forums again to find out how to tune my TPS, but I was just wondering if this seems like a sound idea.

I have this same problem, but I guess it's from the Emissions removal and throttle body mod (maybe?)...

What did you do to your throttle body? I don't think removing emissions should affect it in this way...

I have another question. I've read about how to adjust the TPS, but it requires turning the car on. For a Turbo model with a TMIC, how could you do this? Wouldn't running the car without the TMIC be bad for it?

Idleing without boost it is ok, just make sure to bypass it so that the AFM stills sees airflow (run a hose across where the intercooler was).

When the procedure says turn the car on it doesn't mean to run the engine, just turn the key to the on position. Fully warm the car up, then adjust KOEO (Key On, Engine Off)
