another cooling problem.

I did a bit of searching prior but nothing is ever clear on any particular issue :/

I'll lay down as much info as I can, I have a, 10th AE, I do not have an undertray, I have no t-stat installed (i was testing and left it out) I just installed a new water pump and this weekend I installed my FMIC, and I just rebuilt my motor less than a year ago. About a good 6k miles on it currently.

Till about 3 months ago I never had a problem cooling anywhere. I began to heat up on the highway, I dont have a digital gauge but it was getting about 1/2 on the gauge and when I'd get on it i'd just barely break beyond half way, then I'd creep down to around 60mph and it would drop to normal. I first removed the t-stat to see if any changes happend. none. I left it out, and changed the fan clutch, no changes. For about a month I left it alone. just didnt go on the highway. I changed the belts thinking maybe they are slipping, they are older than dirt. well that night I went for a drive and it heated up really quick, as if I was on the highway. I stopped used my ifrared thermo and found the water pump had failed, (it was 17-20 degrees hotter on the bottom of the rad than the top) replaced the water pump, boom. fixed my problem. tested it on the highway getting on it good, got to about 110mph and held it to see if it would get hot at all. It never rose past about 1/8-1/4" below half way (t-stat still removed). well I thoguht my woes were over so I installed my FMIC this weekend. I got back on the highway and its all back the way it was, anything over 60mph will break just past half way, and if im getting on it in the city it will raise quickly but not break half way.

If I can recall correctly some FC's get cooling issues when the have the FMIC so if this is in teh norm what can I do to bring the temps back down. Its hot in tha engine bay. What else can I look into I have basically a new cooling system minus the t-stat out and the radiator. After my searching I'm goign to go home and double check air in the system. This is my first 7 that Ive ever had any cooling issues ever and I'm stumped. I dont think the tray will make a difference, since its been about a year without any issues.

hope its not too much. Thanks in advance..

Put on an undertray and install a t-stat. Then its time to make sure you are funneling ALL the available air over the FMIC and Radiator. Foam or metal ducting works.

Working on it. but finding a tray is gonna be more difficult then I would have thought.. it appears most people just throw them out.

I still have the stock radiator, But fortunatly for me while I was workign I aquired 5 e-fans..I tested and 2 of them are good. they are all used. You think if I add one this could help? I was already thinkign about upgrading the radiator but I didnt think I would have to. I'd rather fix the problem then put a bandage on it.

"Fixing the problem" would involve removing the impediment to airflow- i.e., the intercooler- and I assume you don't want to do that, so at this point you're not bandaging anything, you're trying to compensate for a change in the system.

First thing I'd do is install a real water temp gauge so you can see what temps you're actually dealing with.

Well, for sure thats on the list. but I did see that at the pump oulet was about 185-190 and exiting the radiator was about 10-12 degrees difference.. I used my thermo gun to check it out.
Ive also read things about the coolant gauge acting like the stock oil pressure gauge..cannot be trusted..
